HELP!!!! - RGB Finder

To all you computer gurus/programmers, do any of you know of a program that will scan a folder containing images and can identify any RGB files.

For example we get disks from customers ever day, a scans folder contains 100 images say, 5 of them are RGB files/tiffs/jpegs etc....

If we process the job without opening up every file to check if its CMYK or not, our rip converts any RGB's to CMYK, but the conversion is PANTS, its better if we do it up front in photoshop.

So if you know of any programs/ codes we can input/plug ins...we are using OSX 10.3.9 at the mo.

Can you not set up a batch-processing job in PS to convert everything to CMYK and re-save automatically?
 
yep shaw can, but we don't 'cause of cost factor, if any addtional work needs putting into the job, we bounce it back to the account execs and get them to OK the costs first, which equals lengthy times which in our trade you don't have 'cause of tight deadlines. We also work on the principle of not touching customer scans unless necessary, data integrity and all that.
 
I just thought there might be a scrpity thing-o-me-bob that we could use on the macs?
 
thanks for that, but we just need to identify them in the first instance.

i.e. go find - look in a ceratin folder - are there any jpeg/tiff/eps/gif etc. RGB's Yes/No.

As easy as that really, we do have a program for os9, RGB File Finder but it doesn't recognise jpegs, which is a bummer as you all know 99% of pics supplied are from digi cameras which are RGB Jpegs!!:bang: :bang:

Dont ask me, lol im a Server Engineer, know naff all about Macs lol just got some spare time and thought i would try google !

Perhaps one of our resident Mac bods could help out on that one ! :)
 
I was hoping that, as I know there are some programming/coding/wizzes out there...........you are still there...................aren't you?? :(
 
To me, and my poor understanding, it looks like there is a program in OSx called Finder? to run this, press Command-F which brings up the window.

Choose other from the menu, and raw query, then i get lost ! lol

This line in the file looks like what you need to search for <kMDItemColorSpace = "RGB">

Other than that im kind of out of the loop !

Cheer Ian, just realised why the finder wasn't coming up with this spotlight - raw option, our 10.3.9 macs don't have it, so I'm just giving it a wirl on a 10.4 mac......will let you know the results.

If you are still struggling I could probably cobble together a java app over the weekend, if that's any help, although it would be limited to the filetype it supports as java doesn't handle that many.
 
cheers for the input guys, but I think I might have sorted something, in finder you can select search via 'color space' - all,RGB,CMYK. I tried it on a folder full of mixed images and it worked, only problem is it only works on local folders, not a server, or disk in the drive, so this means we'd have to copy the scans folder for each job to the desktop first, bit of a bummer, but better than a reprint should you miss a rouge scan in the first place. Thanks!!:clap:

If you could send me a couple of jpg/tiff & RGB/CMYK combinations then I'll see what I can do (not too big though). I'm currently out of the country but I'll put something together at the weekend when I get back to my dev box.
 
why not just use flightcheck
 
'cause company sponds are few and far between, so while I had a bit of free time I was having a play around to see if I could find something.
