Notwithstanding the issue of it perhaps being purloined, the condensation matter could be dealt with by putting the camera in a sealable plastic bag. If you bring your camera in from the cold, then condensation will form on the outside of the bag, rather than on the camera. Just make sure that the bag is quite empty of air when you seal it and wait for the whole entity to warm up before you open the bag.
As far as I know, the problem with bags of silica gel is that it's not possible to tell when it's saturated, unlike the loose indicating variety.
