Help recovering deleted photos, please!

Don't know how it happened but I seem to have deleted every photo I have taken in the past eight years! They were all in one folder on an external hard drive, can anyone recomend a way of getting them back.

I'm almost in tears.
 
I've used this software and it's both good and free.

If the files haven't been overwritten, you should be able to get them back.

The delete button just unticks a box on each picture file. Nothing has actually been deleted.
As long as you don't overwrite the files by installing new programs and files, the info is still there.
There are loads of free data recovery programs out there, such as Aviraunerase (available as a free download from majorgeeks.com) piriform recuva, etc.

You may lose a couple of pics, but probably not. Programs tend to be installed on unallocated space, rather than space that has already been used before.
 
Are you sure you haven't accidentally dragged the folder somewhere else?

Worth a search before going down the recovery route.
 
yep, seems more likely.
