Have a bit of a problem somebody out there may be able to help with.

I cannot open RAW files from my D300 in Elements 6 or Coral Paint Shop pro
yet they are on the camera screen and in windows (in a thumbnail). Comp message says "it is the wrong type of file". Ext is NEF though.

Strange, I can open them on a basic RAW converter I downloaded off the net.

RAW files from my D70s open with no problems at all

Am I doing something wrong..........:bang:

Jon

PS no probs with Jpeg on the D300

You'll need a plug in for elements I think. I had the same problem with Elements 4 but upgraded to 6, for my Canon 40D. Dunno about the Nikon th0. There are some recent threads with links to the Adobe downloads if you do a quick search.

not sure Jon, what version of ACR are you using ? It looks like you need at least 4.3.1 (but I might be wrong on that and it might work with an earlier release.)

ACR??

Sorry, Adobe Camera Raw, it's what would open the nef file. I had to do that when I got my 450d. Try downloading and installing this and try and open the nef in elements again.

No luck with that I'm afraid....any other ideas

Have you tried using the software that came with the camera?

bought 2nd hand...no software as yet. Seller promises to send it on though

Sorry, that was all I could think of :shrug:

perhaps you could look on the nikon web site. It may be possible to download the software , or nikon may even send you a disc...unless you just wait for the previous owner. I certainly think that the camera software is your best bet. I had the same problem with my sony. [very frustrating]

FIXED IT....The plug in was the culprit, or may'be I was. I re installed the new plug in and it worked 2nd time round. I'm blaming the first plug in as faulty...not user error !!!! :woot:

Thanks again everybody for your input

jon

Excellent
