Hi all,
I recently acquired Lightroom 4 updated to 4.4.
Now something is doing my nut in, seriously, i`m screaming and as you may tell i`m not a PC geek.
So please can someone help me out., Here it is:-
I like to change my desktop photos about every week or so or when I take a shot I really like, since I got lightroom I can still do this action but now I only get about 1/3 to 1/4 of the original shot on my screen.
Before I used GIMP and this was never a problem for me.
I only shoot in JPEG btw, should that make any difference ?
I`m sure its something to do with Lightroom.
Can you help?

Thanks in advance

I've had a similar problem, or at least it sounds similar.
What I do is open up the desired image using Windows photo viewer and from there select the Set as Desktop option. That works for me.
It might work for you!

I'd have thought with the quality of shots you take you'd only be able to change yer desktop pic every six months or so.:p

Thats crazy but it works :D I normally just right click on a image in my folder and select the same option but now with different size :(
Cheers Mickledore (y)

Seriously tho, try saving the pic in a different file somewhere and save as desktop from there as opposed to straight from Lightroom. That's what I do, sometimes the pic fits the screen and sometimes not but worth a try.

And ive just noticed that my saved photos on my "E" drive all do the same :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding but I use Photoshop and if I want to make a desktop background I make a canvas of the correct resolution in photoshop and then drop my photo on there. That way I make sure it fits as I want it to. Otherwise you get bars at the top and bottom or sides if (as is invariably the case) your photo doesn't match the aspect ratio of your desktop. Not sure if you can do that in Lightroom though.

Hi htid, I don't use ps. As stated above, All my photos don't fit now, that's more than 20,000 in a folder that have changed, maybe it's not lightroom, maybe it's a setting on the pc.

Let's tackle this systematically.
1. What resolution (in pixels) is your screen?
2. What size (in pixels) are your photos?
3. Which OS are you using?
4. What process do you use to put a photo onto the desktop?

It *sounds* like you have set your default desktop wallpaper settings to show you images at some other resolution, when what you need to do is make the images fit to screen. Using Windows photoviewer like Mickledore does will override the desktop settings just for that one image, but next time you're back to the odd resolution. Reset the default so that it re-sizes the virtual image to fit screen resolution and you should be fine.

1, 1970x1920 I think, it's a 27 inch screen.
3, win7 64 bit.
4, Windows viewer and right click. 2, I'm not on the pc now so I can't answer.
Thanks

Your answer to 1. is wrong as it's nonsense. Right-click on the desktop and select 'screen resolution' to get a meaningful value. The likely results are 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440.

1920X1080 = 1080p and is the 'standard' size for consumer screens these days.

Right click on your Desktop.
Select Personalise.
Select Desktop Background (start of bottom row).
Select whatever Picture position you want (It's probably set at Fill instead of Fit)
Save.

OK, there's your problem right there. If you do it that way, the selected image is not resized to fit the screen.

A better way is right click on the desktop, select personalize, click on Desktop Background, select your image, and use the Picture position control to ensure that it is resized to fit the screen.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Lightroom, by the way. Nothing.

(EDIT) @Mikesphotaes beat me to it by seconds!
