hi all ive got a bit of a problem do i keep my d40 and buy a canon 300d rebel 18-55mm plus 55-200mm sigma lens for £250 or buy a glass for d40 or be naughty and have both.Any advice much appreciated.

Andy, that's not terribly helpful. If you've got a Nikon DSLR, you must have some specific reasons for even considering switching to Canon, and some even more specific reasons for considering both. If you want people to help you, you really need to share some of that thinking with us.

well stewart the reason is the young lady in question that is selling canon has decided she does not want to do photography anymore and made me the offer of 1st refusual but as ive got a nikon d40 do i really need a canon or do i up date my nikon and 300-400mm lens .i was but was considering another camera as a back up ,and i do like nikon over canon :bang::bang: what to do is difficult.

Andy, a 300D won't really do anything for you that your D40 doesn't do (*). It's an old design (2003), it's only 6 megapixels, and it's not as though the two lenses that are being offered are major bargains either. There really is no point at all even considering this unless you're unhappy with the Nikon system, which isn't the case. So save your money and put it towards more/better lenses for your Nikon.

(*) Actually there is one thing. It will let you use the Canon 100-400L, which is a zillion times better than anything Nikon have to offer in that general range.

with Stewart if you are looking for a second body it should be the same make as the first.
