Im COMPLETELY useless when it comes to PP, haven't a clue about anything.

I'm taking a series of 'pregnancy progression' photos for a friend of mine but there is a shadowon the wall behind her - is there any way I can use editing software to get the background all the same colour?

Thanks in advance, I'm a absolute goon with this kinda stuff.

Example:

Personally I'd just select her with the quick selection tool, refine the edge slightly and drop her onto a new background, quicker than "fixing" the shadow. I'd also lighten her a shade.
Done quickly.

Thank you very very much. If you dont mind would you be able to elaborate a little more on what refining the edge means and how to drop onto a new background?

When I selected the subject I opened the masks palette and used the smart edge option to clean up the edges a little (wasn't too bad to start with) before masking out the background with a layer mask, then I made a new grey layer and put it below the subject layer.
It's a bit tricky to explain exactly, so you might want to check out some video tutorials on masking on youtube or here http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html
