I have just bought a New Kiss x4(canon 550D)
I also bought a second hand lens from ebay
its a sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DG MACRO.
My problem is the lens works fine when i use the screen to take
a photo but when I use the viewfinder it will not AF(auto focus)
The focus light just keeps flashing and will not take a photo.
When i put on the canon 18-55 lens that came with the camera
it works fine AF on screen and viewfinder.
Anybody got any ideas,it may just be something that needs
set in the settings.

At the risk of stating the obvious - have you made sure the switch on the lens is set to AF (auto focus) and not manual?
 
HI yes as i said it works when the camera is set to the screen but does not AF
when i use the viewfinder.

28-300 has been around a while, originally designed for film cameras. So if that's an older lens, my guess is that it's not chipped for the camera. It happens a lot.

Sigma might be able to help with a re-chip. They're always helpful with this kind of thing, if there's a fix available.

Also try covering the vf with the rubber cover. Should be on your strap?
This is meant to help in live view for focusing. Hope this helps
