HELP! Please :)

( ask fracster he hates me lol)
.

Hate is a strong word mate

just because he uses your picture as a target when zeroing his firearms, and you have him on the list for the inaugral TP cage fighting event doesnt mean he hates you

mind you the TP convention should be interesting this year :naughty:

Squirrelfool; We can be harsh around here but we are all nice enough. You will get used to the tone here soon enough as it can all be a little hard but thats the way your going to learn. Also dont forget how often we read posts like this and most people let there ego get in the way and shoot it anyway. You have used your head and made the right decision. That is not to say never jump in to a shoot and give it a go just that you should have all basis covered before you do. Stick around, take the good comments with the bad and build a thick skin. I am forever disagreeing with people on here and sometimes we have harsh words. ( ask fracster he hates me lol)

If you stick around you will learn lots i promise.

Heap big photographer speakum truth.

Also you may be a "young girly" but it takes balls to make the sensible decision sometimes. You appear to have quite large ones:)

A little off subject but do many people feel they really need PI as a photographer? I may start a new thread on that but can be bothered right now.

I'd definitely want some cover against bridezilla deciding she doesnt like the shots and suing me for the cost of restaging the wedding.

IMO thats a larger hazard than the posibility of someone falling over your camera bag and suing for injury.

With my Simply Business/ Glemhams policy PI would not cover this problem. This is covered by my Business Expenses cover which was only £50 ontop of my PI and Equipment.

I spoke to a couple of brokers with regards this this and they both said a photographer should not need PI unless they are giving advice as the business expenses will cover this.

I don`t hate anybody that I have not met in person and very few that I have met in person Andy. You fall into the former, so no, I don`t hate you..................;)...............We just disagree at times, nothing wrong in that........

It's a matter for you really the risks probably aren't that great, but as someone said earlier we're in a very litiigous society these days and some people are just looking for an excuse. I did weddings for years without any cover, but I had a couple of incidents - one where a guy walked right into my fully erected tripod, and one where an old dear tripped over cables to remote flashes at a reception despite the fact I'd taped them to the floor at intervals. The old dear wasn't hurt in the least but she did go on about it a bit so I decided to get some cover. I forget now how much it was but it wasn't much - the premium should reflect the risk which really isn't great.

...personally I think you'd have been fine with the 1000d and 50mm f/1.8, and a little before hand practice.

Throw in an £80 flash gun and you're there.

As for insurance... Yes, definitely required for "paid jobs" these days. A requirement of the times.

This is different as this would be included in your PL cover. I have 10 mil PL cover. I think not having PL would be crazy, alos cover of your own equipment and for me business and legal expenses cover as it covers you for the possibility a client ios not happy with your work. PI on the other hand i am at a bit of a loss why a photographer would need it.

squirrelfool - stick around :D - loads to learn on here. Sometimes comments are a bit sarky etc - but that's what forums tend to be like - don't take it too personally.

In any business, you're gonna get some hard comments, so maybe developing a bit of thicker skin with some on forum sparring is no bad thing.

Everyone has to start somewhere. OK so this job was maybe too much, too soon - but now the pressure if off and you know what you need to work on so that if/when a similiar opportunity comes up you'll be better prepared.

I'm inclined to agree. Professional Indemnity cover is for giving wrong or negligent advice in your professional capacity, where the client claims that he/she has suffered loss or harm as a result of acting on it. I can't see where a photographer would be exposed to this risk. It's more appropriate to consultants, lawyers, accountants and the like.

I actually love this forum now.. Learnt a lot that I had noooo idea about!! Thanks everyone. And to be honest I am super relieved I don't have to do this anymore.. especially as I'm gonna be working til 5am the day/night before! pheww.. Not looking forward to her email back though.. hopefully she will be understanding :/

I'd rather p her off a little bit now rather than a lot from awful results or any incidents I'm not covered for!!

Thanks again everyone- you're all reet good :D

Yep i used the wrong term double doh - by the sounds of it I meant buisness expense insurance - ie against the costs resulting from stuffing up a shoot

I think this is a common mix up. Infact untill i spoke to a good broker i also made this mix up myself.
