i have a new problem with my canon 400D :S i been taking pics all day perfectly fine. ive had no real probs since i bought it in september went to take a photo just now, and its black apart from the top, like something is restricting it so the picture comes out klike this.

im not insured on it, can someone tell me wats wrong?
 
Does the mirror flip all the way up during exposure?
 
i just checked. it isant flicking back down :O wat can i do? or should i take it back to jessops to be fixed? how have i caused it to happen? coz i never play with the insides
 
Take the lens off and switch the camera on, choose sensor cleaning from the menu and see if the mirror flips up ok, switch the camera off and it should flip back down.
 
ive done that its flipped back down and now flipping down but its still doing the same so im guessing now the mirror isnt going all the way up, and wen it does is sticking
 
yes thats the one! cud jessops fix it or hve to go back to cannon :S

reading down from the link the number of people who were saying things like ,, i was in the middle of an important shoot ,, or mine broke just before an important shoot ,,well if the shoot was that important wheres you bloody backup camera ? ( toss*** )

Good idea to also check the image on the back of the camera every few shots, just to make sure all is working OK. If not you know and can wheel out the spare

i mean mine wasnt important just upsets me coz im not insured and cost 5 months wages to buy the camera and im broke. im saving up for a rocket to clean my cam. thats how broke i am. im a pound of :S

This was going to be my question, if it's less then a year is it not still under warranty? This would negate the fact you have no specific insurance for your camera.
 
i cant find the receipt but i not stopping looking till i find it
 
werll i never touch the insides coz im too scared all i did was take photos
 
did you buy in a shop or online?

if it was online you'll be able to retrieve the invoice from your email inbox.
 
Also if you paid by credit / debit card, the statement showing the amount and sellers name can act as a proof of purchase. I used it once where I lost the receipt no problem

Somewhere like jessops, or warehouse express. If it's an online seller that has shops take it in to one of them. If its not you'll have to contact the seller to find out their procedure.
 
ive taken it in. they said it will be read yfor pick up in 6 weeks :O
 
i guess i have time to mess with the piccys i do have and get au fey (or however u spell it) with photoshop

Theres a a good chance there a barcode on the box it came in, they should be able to identify that I'd imagine.

just because its an important shoot does not mean its a paid job might be someone at a show/friends wedding and the pics are important to that person
remember everyone cant aford 2 bodies
