Hi there, was wondering if anyone could help/advise me please. I've had a logo designed by someone using photoshop. Essentially it is a pawprint which is transparent with my name across it. The only problem is when I try to edit my watermark in lightroom and bring in this picture it does not recognise the file as it is a psd file. I've tried allsorts and the person who designed has made some adjustments and said for me to try again but I think we've lost the layers as it is now no longer transparent.

So what do you suggest - I would rather keep the logo designed for me so as far as I can see from research I think I need some form of photoshop to apply my logo/watermark. So if so would an elements version be sufficient (as I use lightroom and don't own any photoshop at the mo) and if so once I've finished editing would I have to then export to elements and apply the logo and in which case once I've done that do I assume I couldn't import back into lightroom as it wouldn't recognise the logo???

So confused please does anyone have a nice simple answer, if so I would be eternally grateful. :shake:

If I have understood the above it sounds like you need a .png (or even a .gif depending on the detail and colour in the logo) version of you logo (simple job in Photoshop, and probably elements, of just saving it as that, rather than a jpeg etc, as jpegs can't do transparent layers). Lightroom should then recognise the transparent background.

Are you a PC or Mac user?

If you are a PC user get Faststone .....it will let you water mark your images quicker than LR will and you can use the file given to you by your designer.

Save the file they gave you as a .png file and this will keep the transparency intact.

When adding your watermark to the shots use the faststone interface to add the 'yourlogo.png' to the images. No need for any kind of photoshop then.

I have Lightroom and photoshop. You just need to save the file as a png and you should have no probs.

If the logo is a vector it can be in .eps which will need rastorizing to before conversion.

If you get stuck pm me and I'll give you my email address and I'll have a go sorting.

Thank you, I've just asked a friend with PS to save it as a png or gif and then try it again. Really hoping this is going to be straightforward somehow thinking this might not be the case :bonk:

Thank you very much for your offer, I've no idea what a vector is or an eps or rastorizing so if my attempt after its saved as a png doesn't work I'll pm you. Thank you again.

Think I'm going to have to pm you before I end up bouncing my laptop around the room.

Have you read my post, YOU DO NOT NEED PHOTOSHOP OR ANY OF IT'S SIBLINGS?

See post 3 for details.

OK I converted into PNG and they work fine in lightroom

Do not try and import them into lightroom, instead go to export (right click on an image)

Top option Export>Watermarking (scroll down towards the bottom)>Check watermark>select edit watermarks from drop down box

Select image options > then select png you want to use > Towards the bottom you can select opacity, position etc.

When happy click done, and then you can select it every time from the drop down box or make an export preset to add it automatically when you want to...

...If you get stuck on anything just give me a shout :)

If you're already using Lightroom to do your processing, why would using something else be faster to do the watermark when in LR it's a case of ticking a box on export? It's even faster if you set up a few export presets like I have.

With using just your affix as your logo it means people seeing one of your images would have to do a search to find you and although there is a large clue in the large paw print some people might not link the two, and therefore might not find you if they see one of your images on line and are interested in purchasing it ?
