hello everyone would anyone recommend the nikon d3 or would you wait a
bit for the new d3x,we have just had our first baby and the mrs is getting pretty peed off with me keep going around in circles etcetc,i want it for sports, football, cricket, plus any thing that i want to photograph.

would you recommend the 70-200 f2.8
and the 14-24 f2.8
and what sort of money second hand would these go for to start off with.

Thanks for looking at this thread

:)

If Nikon release the D3X according the specs people are expecting, it will be 5fps instead of 8.

For sports, the D3 would be a superior camera, with a faster frame rate.

That said, it's all conjecture, there's no real product and nothing about the D3X is fact.

As it's been said, there is no confirmation that there will be a D3X. That said, it seems that some very well informed members here, and elsewhere are expecting this. Still, will the D3X be suitable for sport, or photojournalisem is anyones' guess.

I'd say go for what's available, or for a D700 / D300 now. If you're in the money for the kit you've listed then buy the lenses (14-24, 24-70, and the 70-200VR) and a D300 / D700. Wait until February '09, that's when Nikon are said to be releasing something that's meant to make news for the whole year to come! If, by then, you find yourself wanting what Nikon has to offer, sell your current body and get the new one; otherwise just keep what you have, or upgrade to what's available (D700 / D3).

Well.. it might not be called the D3X, but its certainly coming.

Spill the beans, please! Will it be an FX or medium format? Do tell ... the wait isn't doing my health any good.

According to Ken Rockwell:

The D700 is so good that I'm suggesting people buy a D700, then sell their D3s and pocket the cash. Shoot the D700 until the D3X comes out so that you aren't holding onto a depreciating D3. (see $1,000 off on a D700)

Full post

The D700 is a very quick shooter, even without the grip. Add that for £150 and you get 8fps (when using AA batteries). Get the D700, pocket the cash and get the 70-200/2.8 :)

What are you going to do with your pictures? Are you shooting professnially?

If s, the majority of clients insist on the highest resolution posible....so you go out and spend on the latest, £3000 body and a set of lenses at £1200 apiece..............................................................................and shoot in RAW and then you convert it to a high MB TIFF, or even a full resolutoion jpeg and burn it to a CD.

Then you deliver it to their office very proudly, upon which deliverance they promptly go all gooey and sigh and utter words of wonderous praise for you very fine efforts. "Het, Jim, come and look at these shots.....they're fantastic!"

Then they give it to the company designer who goes about reducing it to 900 pixels on the long end and shoves it on the company website.

And you are worried about the difference between a D3 and whatever comes next....just how big do you intend to print your pictures? Are you going to have a house full of A0 prints? If so, the D3 will do you just fine!
