Help please!! Nikon 1.4xTCII Problem...

Hi guys.

I have a dimming problem using my Nikon 1.4xTCII (second version) with my D800E coupled with my 500mm f/4 VR lens..

The focus motor is working as I can see, hear and feel it hunting for acquisition but the aperture blades are fixed closed nearly.

Once I take the TC off the camera and lens works perfectly.

The lens is nearly new, only used the TC once with the body which is also nearly new.
The teleconverter is only a couple of years old and hardly used so I don't think it's a wear problem as there's hardly a mark on all of the contacts, to which I have thoroughly cleaned using professional Eclipse solution and a cotton bud (Q-tip)..

Can anyone suggest what I need to do?

I had the exact same problem with a D800, 500 f4 and 1.7x. Turns out the aperture lever on the camera had been ever so slightly bent (at first the problem only occurred with the 1.7 attached but then it happened with the 24-120 attached). I very carefully eased it back a little using a flat edged knife and there's been no problems since.
