I’m hoping somebody can give me some good advice in buying a new monitor. The more I look the worse it gets. I’ve read so many reviews and opinions I’m really confused now. Has anyone bought a new monitor lately? How did you come to the conclusion it was right for you? I’m looking for something with a screen over 20” and the price no more than £250, but at a push and if it was exceptional and little more could be found.

Cheers Marcus...

Many thanks andrewc and Doug...

Read any review and they will all say that this is a steal at this price. It has the E-IPS panel as well!

What is an E-IPS panel?

Looking at a new monitor myself but wanted something which has higher res. reading the reviews apprantly it wont run 1680x1050 res which means it runs at the same res as my 19"

I've been looking into monitors recently and the one that's tickled my fancy is the NEC ea231wmi. It's a 23" screen, IPS, and costs about £300 inc VAT. However its a new model and there aren't any reviews about it yet afaik.

I gather that IPS monitors are better quality, with, in particular, better viewing angles than older, cheaper, TN types.

However, there are still problems with screen uniformity, in particular with those at the cheaper end of the market, like the Dell mentioned above, and this new NEC.

Other 24" contenders - the Dell u2410 and HP 2475 use the same type of screen with the same shortcomings, and are about £430-ish, which may be too much to pay for a screen that's still not perfect.

Not sure if this is good or bad but 25" Monitor for £170.10 has to be a bargain right? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169637

What do you think guys? I currently have the 19" Hanns-G monitor and that has done me fine for the last few years but at this price im seriously tempted to upgrade!

Just read a review here http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=3200204&pn=1 and decided its probably not worth getting after all... or is it :bonk:

Believe me you DON'T want a cheap TN type panel. 2209wa sounds great except a rather low resolution given the screen size. This may be an issue for some work. If you can't afford u2410, Then have a look at the older Dell 2007WFP or 2407wfp. I own 2007 one and absolutely love it. http://www.itcsales.co.uk/acatalog/20__TFT_Displays.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=cpc#a711 - just make sure it is an S-IPS not PVA type. (Note 2008 models are all TN and should be avoided - TN means bad viewing angles, and terrible colours).

I own the Dell 2209WA & definitely give it my recommendation - in it's price range it's the best option, for photo-editing it's better than the TN alternatives. Just in case you want more re-assurance here are plenty of positive reviews..
