Hi all

Hope someone can help.. Im using a 5d mk2 & 580ex2 flash. Deciding to get some off camera action i went for the yongnuo st-e2.. Now i dont know if this is a fault or if the yongnuo doesn't support "manual flash control" from the camera lcd panel.. With the canon st-e2 in the flash function settings menu there is an option to select ettl flash mode or manual. Selecting manual reveals a futher option where the power output of the flash can be manually altered rather than resorting to going to the flash to change power manually.. Selecting manual with the yongnuo attached simply flips it back to ettl... Has anyone experienced this..? Is this correct or is it a dodgy unit..?

Thanks

Mark

Yes.
Ignore what the flash 'says'. It has to be in ETTL mode, otherwise it'll not accept any instructions.

A manual flash is only capable of listening to the centre pin 'fire now' command, it needs ETTL to have power settings transmitted.

Yongnuo ste2, and the Canon original for that matter, did not offer Manual control of remote flashes.

They only work in ettl radio mode. They did offer HSS and focus assist though.

If you want/ed manual modes, you had to use an EX series flashgun master, like the 550, 580 etc. Technology has long since surpassed the ste2, which I think was released early noughties.

Yongnuo 622C is the answer. Manual, ETTL, HSS and a focus assist ;)
