Evening all, I have have just upgraded my laptop and have copied all my photos from my old computer to my external hard drive. I have now realised I have duplicate if not triplicate copies of some photos. I cannot find out for the life of me how to delate the duplicates in a simple manner. Can anyone please advise the best way to do this? I am using a Mac book pro and western digital external hard drive.

Thank you for the help in advance

There's a mac app called Gemini which is good try that.

Advise is go download SETTAPP it's a new service You get 28 days free and all apps are fully activated, Gemini is one of them... give it a whirl great service I used it

I suggest you download and install the free version of CCleaner
https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
Click on Tools > Duplicate Finder > Search
Then delete what you want to - it doesn't take very long
(It's amazing just how many duplicates of all sorts of things, that are unnecessarily using up space, you will find).

+1 for Gemini

Morning, thanks for these, I will give it a go. With either of these can you check what is about to be deleted? Just in case?

Good luck clicking all the files you want to delete, not exactly user friendly!

Hi rob, thanks for the heads up, I've downloaded & got it running now. Found 100gb so far & only 1/4 of the way through. Eek. For my own sanity, how do I know that these are definitely duplicates & ok just to click delete at the end of t?

Cheers for the help.

Oh, I don't know, it didn't take too long once started. Most importantly it's very 'accurate'.
I expect it's a pain if something important gets deleted by multi selecting.

It would work fine if you could use a button to select all the duplicates, however manually clicking on each of the thousands of duplicates, is off the scale for RSI !

Well after three attempts of using Gemini, the programme crashes 3/4 of the way through and doesn't do anything else. Help. I just have it searching the external hard drive. I really don't fancy doing this manually, however I beginning to wonder if this is the only way?
