Help! Pixel Reduction

First of all apologies if this has already been asked, but I am completely new to photography and have realised its a big undertaking to get into.

Anyhow... I have to ask the question, Given that you are only allowed 800 pixel max to upload a photo onto this site, What programme could I use to resize/rescale a photo? I have Canon Photo Professional which came with my camera (canon 550d). Is this a feature on thi software? or do I require some other software?

While you can use the Canon Software I'd recommend you download a program called FastStone. It'll do the resizing you want and a lot more besides. It'll tide you over until you decide to go for a more powerful editor - like LightRoom of Photoshop Elements, both from Adobe.
 
I use Lightroom for everything these days, but back in the days when I used DPP it was easy enough. Just select the image(s) you wish to resize and press CTRL-B to open up the batch processing window. Fill in the options you prefer, which is typically a one time thing for several of them, and then click "Execute".

Irfanview is very good too. Fast, free and well featured.

It's one of my bits off essential free software along with Colour Cop and Filezilla
