Does any one know the name of the photographer who used a long lens and remotely triggered flash to take night portrait shots of people in the street?

Nope perfect description, I think you mean philip lorca dicorcia, who put a remote flash on scaffolding.
 
I don't remember his name but last year I saw pictures online by an American photographer. Who took very cheeky pictures at night in the streets with off camera flash. Was the flash mounted on a car? Was it California? Maybe on DPReview? Am I barking up the wrong street?

I suspect @Byker28i has identified the photographer that @jondc is thinking of, some of Philip-Lorca diCorcia's shots have become very well known (being sued for taking them always helps create publicity). But I also know the shots @ianp5a means and it's going to bug me all day until I remember who took them.

That's the guy, thank you very much. With not knowing the name I was searching images on Google but could not find the image I had stuck in my head for him?

Jonathan Castillo? Had two cars. Car in front had the camera pointing backwards and a colleague with the flash mounted pointed sideways driving alongside the target. Was inspired by di Corcia
