Hi Everyone
Really need advice, my daughter has asked for a camera for Christmas, as a beginner photographer I was advised to buy a Lumix G1. It didn’t however come with a lens, so I bought an Olympus 14-42mm, I have now realised that it doesn’t fit! Can I buy an adapter so that it can be used?
Hoping someone can help as I have absolutely no knowledge about cameras. All advice welcome. Thanks

That’s strange as it should fit. They are both m43 so are you absolutely sure? Panasonic and Olympus lenses are interchangeable unless you’ve got a four thirds Oly lens rather than ‘micro’ four thirds.

Just tried again but it seems that the part you connect to the camera is slightly too big. I have just tried to upload a picture of the lens but i need to have posted three times first. Will try again. Thanks

Thats the wrong lens, Olympus had two systems, the 4/3 system for their old DSLR range and the Micro 4/3 range which is what you need, that lens is for the olympus 4/3 DSLR's and won't fit.

Yes, you’ve got the wrong fitting as I suspected. I don’t know where you purchased it from, but if it’s a dealership then maybe they would exchange it for the correct one. Just make sure it is Micro Four Thirds or M43 fitting if you stay with Olympus or get the Panasonic equivalent. Panasonic also do a 14-45 lens which is a decent option.

As Chris says based on the info they are both micro 4/3rds

Daft question, you are aware it is a bayonet fitting and that you need to align the red dots to offer up the lens correctly.......the lens should 'drop' in and is then turned to lock it on.

To remove, you press the silver button and whilst holding it turn the lens in reverse to fitting rotation.

Edit ~ I stand corrected.....as more knowledgeable insight than me re not a m43 lens! Please ignore my post ;)

Big thanks everyone- really appreciate all your help! Not a daft question at all as no I didn’t (really am a complete novice). At least I know what to buy now!

Perhaps you should have asked her what camera she would like? Well too late.
