Hi im an Olympus user and considering getting into Nikon System so I'm sorry if some of the questions are basic.Ok I have the chance of a D3 albiet with slightly high mileage, but my understand is its full frame yeah? With it I would get the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 mark11 Ex apo hsm Dg macro lens,is this lens a full frame lens?? I don't understand as yet what's crop factor lenses and what's full frame!! I will learn though.another lens I would get is the Nikon 50 mm 1.8G AF-S is that full frame also?? What do I need to look for to be able to tell what's what when shopping around? Lastly it would be used alongside my OmD EM1 at weddings ect,I know it's a bit older but I have read it's still great for low light ect. Will this body and these particular lenses be ok for what I'm looking at? What sort of prices are they? Sorry for all the questions.

Can't help with prices as I've not looked recently. The D3 is full frame (denoted by FX) and is good in low light. The Sigma 70-200 is also a full frame lens as is the 50mm AF-S and the 50mm is a fine lens too.

Nikon denotes full frame with FX and crop with DX. To the best of my knowledge all Nikon crop lenses have DX in the name. Full frame lenses do not have FX in their name, however all FX lenses work on DX bodies (though some may not autofocus on some bodies). With Sigma, lenses with DC in the name are full frame compatible, DG means it's crop only.

You may find you need something wider than 50mm for weddings, but both the 70-200 and the 50mm will be useful at weddings. Something like a 24-70mm zoom would fill the gap nicely.

Thanks for your reply Paul,I understood most of what you said, but you said the 70-200 lens I mentioned above is full frame but at the end of your explanation you said the Sigma Dg means crop only.Just a bit confused if the above lens is a full frame lens as I don't want a crop factor lens. For Wider stuff I have my Olympus 12-40 pro on the Em1 to use for now.

Ok great so both are full frame? Thanks so much for the replies. In your Opinion is the D3 still good for the job? Obviously there are others ive seen like the D750,D4 ect but out my budget.

D3 is an excellent full frame camera, capable of very good results and having the advantage of being robust and with great battery power :)

No...DC is crop and DG is Full Frame (but can also be used without issue on a full frame camera).

The lens im getting is the 70-200 2.8 mk11 ex apo hsm DG macro. So going by your explanation that DG is full frame im presuming this is a full frame lens?

...and to clear up an error in my previous post

...what I meant to say was that a full frame lens (DG) can also be used on a crop camera with no issues (y)

Thanks so much I do appreciate your patience with me,now to make a decision.Only things is the 170k clicks, they say it can easy go to 300k so I'm unsure.its a private sale.

To be honest, its one of those things where the manufacturer gives an average life expectancy. It could quite easily go well over the 300k and it could also pack up after youve taken a further 2 shots with it. They are a lovely camera though, and built like a tank!
