Hi there,I'm new to the world of photography [apart from an ancient film camera & compact digital camera ] Now I,d like to re kindle the interest & learn a new hobby.
Firstly I need a new camera , and hopefully someone out there can give me some help & advice ! It needs to be quite light as some of them seem to be quite heavy . I am at the moment dithering between a Nikon 3100 or the Panasonic Lumix G3.
Has anyone had experience of either these cameras, would they be suitable for a complete beginner, or can any one suggest an alternative?
I would value all your comments.
 
Hello. Welcome along. I'm sure someone will come along soon and give some helpful opinions on the 2 cameras you are talking about. I don't have either but I'm sure whatever you decide on you will be happy with as they are both good cameras.
 
I was where you are about 4 months ago. I went for the D3100 and haven't looked back. An excellent starter DSLR. Nice and compact, but a good number of advanced options too for when you decide to move away from the auto modes. A definite +1 for the D3100 from me.
 
Outn of the 2 i would say the nikon, however im a biased canon user, so i reckon you would do better with something like a 450d canon, you can pick them up used quite cheaply now
