I have read about the term and i am now fully feking away of the problem...!!!!

I used my new shinny hilite train for the first time this weekend.

This is the result that i am seeing...

Not the best picture i know but i shows the problem well...!

Can anyone advise of the best way to sort this out..?

I have tried the quick select wand then using a dodge at 18% which is not bad and i have tried the colour dropper with the paint brush tool to fill it in but that left one side darker than the other...!

Any tips for the few hundred images with a bloody seam on them...? :bang:

how did you get a seam? a train should come of the backdrop about half way down also you need to only put teh addres if your image and not the page address like you have Here is your photo
well it was going to be BUT it over size for the forum has to be max 800 pix

Ok thanks will resize the pic later...

It is a hilite with the vinyl train not one of the bottle top covers.

It velcro's onto the bottom along the edge. I expected to get a bit of a seam and have to touch that up i did not anticipate getting a big grey colour change halfway down the picture...

Any clues guys, i have a mountain of these to sort out.....

This family ordered a 42" canvas of another picture...!!!
I am well pleased...

I would have thought the chopped off head was a bigger problem! :D

My way of sorting the train out is to use a levels adjust on the white point to blow the train to white and then use the brush tool at different sizes to 'paint' back the little girl and legs. Normally takes me less than a minute per image.
What makes this image trickier and slower to pp is that the whole image appears underexposed and the hilite isn't anywhere near white itself. How did you set up the lights?
On my monitor the WB balance also looks a bit off, the image looks rather cold.

It's always a problem with the hi-lite train, especially as there's usually no time to set up snoots to light each side perfect. It looks like it could have done with a little more exposure in the hi-lite too.
Most users go for crop to the head and shoulders shot, but if they need full length it's gotta be done.
My method of correction is to use the eye dropper, then reverse this to background, then magic wand the grey and delete.
It takes a little time but if you're filtering the duffers first, it's relatively quick.
Hope this helps :)

Like i said the image is to just highlight the problem, that one is straight out of the camera and imported into Lightroom, but i think that i have the import profile wrong on lightroom as well to complicate matters...!!!

I think that i need to use the brush technique as you have mentioned but first to use the 18% burn around the image to clean up the white first then colour match that....

Just wondering if that is the best way to do it....?

i would think you need to light it better to avoid it happening in the future.

as for fixing these, select the grey bit, looks quite easy as there is quite a difference in the colours and pretty sharp edges, then burn it out. hope you havent got any hair to do :)

good luck

looks like your white balance might be slightly out as well, but may be this uncalibrated screen :)

Just to add that i did 20 families in a very sort space of time as a favor for the local playgroup so as said i did not have time to change the lighting to suit the settings and remeasure the light etc each time....

Thats fair enough but in future if you have the camera set to f10/11 then set the hilite to f16 and that will be white in every shot :)

Only did it quickly unfortunately you wouldn't be able to automate it.

I selected the grey with the quick selection then feathered it, adjusted the brightness to match the top. Then took the eyedropper to sample the top colour and changed the bottom using hue and saturation. To finish off I used the blur tool to blend the top and bottom. As I said, it was only a quick job and not perfect, bit more time spent might come out better.

Nice one...

I will give it a go later....

I am quite new to this as you may have spotted, it is a steep learning curve, that is for sure...!
