Hi all,
I had these photos in my Macbook Pro 13", Snow Leopard, which I had deleted and emptied the recycle bin.
I had transferred them to an external hdd but that hdd got stolen and my only hope of getting my photos back is if I could rescue them from my Macbook.
In this time, I had also overwritten the photo data.

I need to find a data recovery expert that can recover as many of these photos as possible as they are very dear and important to me.
Most people say this is not possible, but I am hoping that some expert company out there will have some advanced software that could even recover overwritten data.

Does anyone have any experience with such issues and can point me in a direction to go.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you!

Most image recovery programs will only work with external media. However I think Photo Recovery software from DataRescue will scan hard drives, but that's
from memory.

Try contacting them to see if what I recall is correct

I would not try using data recovery software yourself you could screw things up further - I used a data recovery service a few years ago and they got everything back for me. The details are on another PC I'll try to find it for you and post.

In case anyone thinks the link I posted befire is software, it's not.:)

It's actually a full lab service for £25.00

Thanks PsiFox.
But I think this service is pretty basic.
They also mentioned 'if your hdd crashes..."
Think its mostly for crashes.
If I want to recover my overwritten data, I really need a specialist service, if there's any chance at all.
But thanks anyway.

Thanks a lot gramps. Will check them out.
Do you remember what was the problem with your hdd?
Was it a crash or deleted data, etc?
Did they manage to get back even data that had been overwriiten?
How did you hear about them, by the way?
Sorry for many qns and thanks a lot.

Right, there are a number of questions here.

How do you know you have "overwritten the photo area" ?

How big is the drive, how much was on it and how much did you delete THEN clear the trash can THEN re-write to the computer?

I have professional data recovery software and if the images are there I can get them back. The above questions will only give you a rough idea of whether there is going to be anything recoverable but it is quite likely.

Cost from most pro recovery companies would likely be £200+, it is a shame you are not a bit nearer or I would suggest you come round with your computer and an empty drive as big as your current drive.

Because my Macbook hdd was FULL.
So I transferred the photos to the ext hdd and deleted them off the Macbook.
Then I put new photos onto the Macbook so the photo area of the old photos would have been overwritten by the new photos.
Does this make logical sense?
Or something else is possible?

How big is the drive, how much was on it and how much did you delete THEN clear the trash can THEN re-write to the computer?

The Macbook hdd total space is 250 Gb.
As mentioned, it was FULL, so there was almost 250 Gb of data on it.
I'm not sure how much I deleted but I'll estimate around 120 Gb?
Now I have 74 Gb of free space on the drive.
So an estimated 44 Gb of data was re-written?
But I'm really not sure exactly how much data was deleted... this is an estimate.
Also, this happened 2 times.
Meaning I deleted a folder (Jordan Photos), overwrote.
Then when it ran out of space, I deleted another folder (Egypt Photos), overwrote.
The photos I deleted the 2nd time (Egypt Photos) are more important.
Though there are also a number of important ones in Jordan.
Sighhhh...

Can I ask what is the name of your software?
Are you sure if can be used on my computer (some software can only be used on one computer - the one it has been registered to)?
Can it recover overwritten data?

Yes, I know it costs £200+ :'( as I've researched them before but these photos are very important to me.
I have also read about some risks of using data recovery software.
If you have used your software before on a similar system and are absolutely sure of what you're doing, I may consider giving it a try.
I don't mind travelling if I can recover my photos.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Pamela,

This is commercial software designed for restoring information. It is not a package for one machine but for one engineer. The software is called "StellaPheonix". Once the data has actually been overwritten by new data then it becomes a serious job of restoration and you are looking at 4 figures instead! From what you have said there is the possibility to restore about 40 odd Gb of data.

I'll take this to PM to see how we can meet up?
