help needed regarding d40x

hi all

been having some problems with my d40x of late, the meter in the camera when i set it to manual and then turn the dial so its exactly in the middle of the meter it produces a black image? but when i dial it back a few stops it produces an image? any ideas as to what the problem is? cheers

Try doing a 2 button reset, (hold down info button and magnify+ button- both marked with green for 2 secs) and then see if it's cured problem.

Didn't you set it so that it doesn't reset the file number when changing or inserting new memory card? See the menu item spanner, and then scroll down to folders, file no sequence and set it to on. All files will then be named consecutively starting at 1 up to 9999. It won't tell you how many you've taken to date but it will tell you how many you've taken from now on.
 
lawless download this exif viewer and open the last shot you took in it - in with all the data is the shutter activations
