I'm about to take the plunge purchasing a entry level dslr from HDEW. I have narrowed my search down to the Nikon d5600 as I liked the time lapse function and touch screen display. Are There any other cameras that I should consider before committing to spending £500 on my first dslr camera?

I'm after a camera for landscape and wildlife photography. The brand doesn' bother me but I want something I can build on in years to come with a good catalogue of accessries, new or used that I can add if I wish to.

The only camera shop near me in a brace of currys which has a limited seletion (and an expensive one at that) so it's not easy to get a real feel for the exact equipment before making my mind up.

Any help and suggestions are greatly received to help me find and research the right camera for me.

Your location is showing as stoke on trent and a quick google shows as you rightly say a dearth of camera shops.
Personally I would have a day out and go to Wex /Calumet in Birmingham ( Hagley Road Tel 0121-326-7636) , (they are big and carry a lot of new and used stuff) which does not seem all that far from Stoke

With what you want to do i would look at the D7200, easier to change settings and IMO the most important thing is you can fine tune the focusing of lenses with the D7xxx series.

Another option to consider is a Canon 77d. The body only are £482 with e-infin but only 1 year warranty with that company, but £60 odd cheaper than hdew.

I think it has a swivel touch screen and time lapse, top lcd screen, good AF system, digital video stabilization for movies, top command dial is much better that that dial on the 5500 / 5600 IMO

I'e been back down to currys today to have a good feel at a few cameras. For me the Nikon d5600 felt better than the canon 1300d and the 750d. I didn't look at the Nikon d7200 though as I didn't think it was within my budet. I also looked at the canon m6 which I believe is mirrorless which I don't know is an advantage or not?
