Hi All,

If anyone here has an abundance of wild garden birds, (particularly small birds such as blue tits, long tailed tits or some less common birds like woodpeckers that like feeding on suet) if you feed and photograph them I would like to know if you would be interested in a project.
My wife has just started a new business making and selling homemade suet blocks and fat balls and needs some stills or video of birds feeding on her new suet bird feeds. We would of course supply a generous supply of food. Please bare in mind this is a small startup and we are unfortunately not made of money. We have a Nikon D300 and a newish trail cam but struggling to get quality results that would be suitable for what we would need. Please feel free to reply or send me a direct message if this is a hobby project you would be interested in.

Kind Regards,
Tim

I would have been, but I'm going to be moving house in the next couple of months, so not really a lot of time to get much done for you.

Good luck with it anyway.

BTW - you may want to check with admin to see if it is OK to post this on here - it may be classed as a commercial 'plug'.

Hi Sky, thanks for your response and I appreciate the time thing for sure, hope your move goes well for you. As for admin I am unsure how to go about it as I'm new here but I did take the time to read the guidelines and I will defo not plug anything. I am just unsure how to get in touch with someone who could help with this particular request paid or otherwise. Asking on a forum board of photographers seemed like the best bet as my google searches are not helping. I've only done studio photography in the past so outdoor wildlife photography is something I struggle with and time is also a problem. If anyone else has any suggestions of anyone I could contact or ideas of other ways to go about it please just say, again any guidance is appreciated.

You're welcome. :)

I can't see (which is why I suggested you check) that it is breaking any of the rules as you're not trying to sell anything to the members. Besides, I'm sure someone will say something if there's a problem.

I never completed my explanation (I'm always doing that - old age I suppose). When I said I'll be moving it was because I'm going into a flat, so I won't have a garden any longer. No more garden birds for me to photograph (unless I can set up a communal project). :(

We're losing the light fast (long lenses need more light) because of the time of year, but if no one else comes forward; I'll be happy to do what I can for you in the coming weeks. I'm retired, so quite enjoy watching the birds feeding.

Bless you Trevor, well I will keep trying. Is there any rule about contacting people on here direct do you know?
I hope you manage to get a communal project going at your new place tho I guess its more difficult now than ever with the covid to worry and skirt around.
All the best

You can PM/DM an individual by clicking on their icon and then clicking 'Start conversation'. Each person has the choice as to whether allow this in their profile. It would be pretty bad form to try and promote anything this way though - I'd recommend sticking to the open forum.

Thanks. I only thought of it whilst typing to you - so thanks for that. I'm sure other residents will be interested if the management will allow it (it's sheltered housing).

I do believe I'm your man :LOL::LOL:

I'd be happy to help with this project. Generally I find that the commercially produced fat balls I put out in the garden are not very popular with the birds in my garden, the sunflower hearts will disappear in a couple of days while the fat balls remain untouched.
I spend an hour or so in my pop-up hide in the garden every day if it's not raining.

Get a Waterproof pop up hide Laurence - I have the Simon King one - 100% Waterproof - so rain does not deter me in any shape or form :)

here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Simon-King-Ultimate-Wildlife-Hide/dp/B01NBIE38A

My little chair hide is waterproof but I feel that the fabric will deteriorate in the rain as I like to leave it out permanently so that the birds get used to it.

Oh right - I see that would be an issue :(

I never use mine in the Garden - mine is in the back of my Landrover along with a 3 sq M camo net which I drape over the hide and I use it out in remote area's - my hide will seat 2 photographer with tripods very comfortably, I use the 3 legged chairs
room inside the hide for rucksacks and flasks too, for those long cold days - in fact I'm taking the hide out tomorrow on private land, near the river, be nice to see if I get anything :)

How did this pan out? l have found again this year that fat balls are nowhere near as popular as Sunflower hearts. I have made some fat balls of my own again this year but they are not being used. l video my feeders with a 4k gopro but using Sunflower feeders l find the majority of small birds are in and out within a second or two with the exception of Goldfinches.
