Help needed OMD 10mk2 lcd screen problems

For some reason l can’t get my lcd screen to operate correctly. It dose not seem to be switching on when in its normal position folded in, but will work when pulled out? Am l missing something here? Driving me mad, only had the camera a few weeks. Help.
 
Have you pressed the little button on the right hand side of the evf by accident , It switches the screen on and off . I tend to leave the screen switched off to save battery power the switch lets you turn it on or off

Thanks for replying, yes I have pressed that button but nothing happens? When the screen is in place, don’t want to have to send the camera back for such a small fault if l can find a work around, maybe will have to try a master reset or something.
 
No idea as I have a different model but...........

Is it in "selfie assist" mode???

Just thinking out loud, as in, on that mode does the screen behave differently if folded back against the body as per typical usage as the control panel/live view screen.
 
I presume the viewfinder is working while “live view” (as Olympus calls the lcd screen) is off and that it goes off when you pull out the screen? You don’t say if the eye sensor fails to work? I have the mk2 and have to say I’ve found the vf/screen interaction very confusing!

I read somewhere (!) that a long press on the vf button changes the behaviour but I haven’t managed to succeed in getting this to anything :-(

Edit: ignore what I wrote about the vf button, it’s rubbish:(

you have to press that button a few times for it to cycle through its options , other than that the info button does similar ,play with them both .if that fails do a reset . the menus are quiet easily cocked up
 
Hi just to clarify, the live view rear screen dose not come on when l turn the camera on, l can still use by looking through the eye piece. When l then pull out the screen it the switches on and if l press the small button at the side of the eye piece it will toggle between live view and the information screen. Thanks for the reply’s so far.
 
Yep you have changed something in the settings , can’t remember what though LOL

I think that’s normal behaviour if the eye sensor is disabled. If you do a long press on the vf button you get a menu on the screen which offers the choice to turn eye sensor on or off. Possibly you have set it to “offl” accidently.
What you describe is exactly how mine behaves with eye sensor off. Possibly there is a menu item too.
 
Just got a reply from customer service at Olympus regarding problem, they seem to think it may be a loose connection to the screen and are asking for me to sent it away for repair, as l only bought it recently it’s under warranty, but will have another look at settings tonight when l get home from work, is the vf button at the side of the eye piece, if so l have done a long press and nothing shows on screen.

Then I think there is something wrong. When I do a long press (currenttly with eye sensor turned off and screen blank) I get the short eye sensor menu on the screen — checked it last night to make sure.
 
Just had another play with camera , went into the menu and then custom menu, to j which is built in EVF, then under this setting l turned off the EVF AUTO switch which will switch from monitor display to EVF automatically when an eye is detected. With it switched off the screen worked and stayed on continuosly until I pressed the button by the view finder which then changed it to viewfinder mode. With the sensor on the screen acts weird going on and off randomly.

I’m sure you realise ... but eye sensors react to fingers etc that are nearby. Personally I hate them and always try to turn them off — not always successfully with Olympus and Panasonic (except with reversible screens obviously) but with Fuji’s it’s simple, YMMV.
 
Thanks sphexx, yes l realise how it reacts, but the screen just went off and then randomly the came back on and off even with camera at arms length. I am returning back to Olympus today my only worry was on the second email said they then sent it to Portugal for repair. I have asked another question about how long it should take before it is returned. I am awaiting reply.

Don't they do the work at their Southend on Sea service centre???
 
At the e-group they often mention that Olympus cameras go off to Portugal for service.
They're generally pretty complimentary about the speed and quality of the work but I've never had to do it myself.
As the camera is new aren't you within your rights to request a replacement rather than a repair?

AFAIK his contract is with the retailer for that sort of thing.
