Hi there

The world of video is very new to me. I have a 4k video. When I play it back via quicktime the quality is stunning. When I play it back through Final Cut Pro (as part of the editing process) the quality is awful, unless I pause it, then the image clears up for the still. Any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks in advance.

It's a low res version of the original. This speed up the editing process and reduces the load on the processor(s). You can change this by going to the viewer window, and look for a small down arrow to the right of the switch symbol. This is the viewer options tab. You need to select Optimized/Original material. You can then choose better quality. However this will put an extra load on the CPU/GPU and you may get dropped frames , especially with 4K, unless you have a fairly fast system.

I usually only switch to this after all editing is done and need to check the final quality

I managed to suss it out too. But thanks a million.

I f you are new to FCPX you might want to check out Ripple Training. I've used these guys video's when I first started with FCPX a few years ago. their site also has some free 5 min sections as well.

You might also like to check out Larry Jordan. Also very competent trainer. Different style but just as good.
