***UPDATE BELOW***I would like to ask you wonderful people here on Talk Photography for your help if I may?
I am in need of some togs that are willing to go and take some photographs for me of ex-servicemen who own dogs.
The images would then be used for a new website that is intended to create a support network for those veterans living with companion dogs, to promote the health and wellbeing of dog ownership, and of that of those veterans.
I am unable to offer any payment as there is no funding behind this initiative. I can only offer to credit the photography used, and to ensure that any further use requested of any images would be referred to the owner.
Would you like to help? A mini project for some people?

********************************************************

I now have a better idea of locations and can start attempting to match people up. I will PM people with requests/details of those Veterans who have agreed to have photographs taken. Togs can then make their own arrangements directly to save having to relay through me all the time. I can't tell you all how much I appreciate this help, but I am very excited about the potential results.

Okay. If you see a listing for a veteran and could take the location then please let me know:

TOG OFFERS: Lincoln, Essex x 2, N.Wales, Yorkshire, Kent, Worcestershire, Bath, Dundee, Glastonbury, S.Yorks/Derbyshire, Portsmouth x2, Northants, Spalding/P'borough, Bristol, North London & Herts, North East, South Staffs/East Mids, West London, Surrey, Somerset, Devon x 3, North Lincs/South Humberside .

Wow ! A brilliant list developing here guys, I am truly humbled by your kind offers to help.

VETERANS: Norwich (Covered), Warminster (Completed), Dursley (Completed), Portsmouth (being organised) , Smarden nr Ashford Kent (Covered), Exeter (on hold), Cullompton (Covered), Barnet (waiting for confirmation) .

Working hard to find more matches, just taking some time folks.

A fantastic response guys, and greatly appreciated. Let's see if we can now get some positive results from this. Fingers crossed.

:)

Oh dear! Please could the mods kindly move this post. Very sorry!

Might help if you let us know where abouts in the country you are wanting the pics taking :)

I'm sure someone can help you out.

Very true indeed.

I have someone in Norwich, Warminster, Dursley, Portsmouth and a Kent based guy. Need to check his exact town.

So are you going to set up the meeting for the shoot?, or are we just meant to try find our own vets with dogs

I will organise direct contact with the appropriate people, then the final details will be left to the interested parties. (I just don't want to list names and contact details publicly that's all).

I suppose I am just aiming to find willing people that are interested, who could be in the right region to save anyone going right out of their way.

I am not wishing to take the 'michael' out of anyone who is willing to help. Does that make sense?

Many thanks to those who have expressed an interest in helping out with this request. I am currently checking on those Veterans who are willing to be photographed, and have made notes of those Togs who have PM'd me with offers of their services.

I will update the beginning of this thread over the weekend when I have had time to sort some things out.

Thank you kind people !

Good to see you got some help!

I hope you get all the togs you need for all the ex servicemen with dogs. As we all owe a debt of gratitude for all the armed forces forced to fight in conflicts, not of their own making. Unfortunately I have no transport and the locations are not near to me or I would gladly of helped.

I love dogs, appreciate what the forces do and I am a photographer....therefor...im in!!!!

if you have any in essex let me know....

out of interest, where did this idea come from. Are you involved with ex servicemem / support dogs?

Is this connected with SAFFA or it it a charity in it's own right?

None of the areas are close to me, but if there are any on Worcestershire I would be happy to help, especially as I am a dog-owner and and ex-forces!

if you have any in yorkshire would be happy to be involved

Anything I can help with in the Bath area then get back in touch via PM

Wow folks ! You are all fantastic. The offers are superb.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this but I'm working flat out in the background here with a new venture that is aiming to support those Veterans who have dogs as companions (and quite often nothing else).

I am a veteran too, and yes, I own an assistance dog, and am currently working on an Assistance Programme specifically aimed at Veterans that may be suffering from more pyschological problems than physical. (There is currently no such provision in the UK for assistance dogs to work with veterans apart from Hounds for Heroes who do a brilliant job for our guys with physical disabilities).

And yes, it is a difficult area to work in as many veterans are reluctant to engage, or may be wary. The good news is that we are already getting veterans together through ownership of dogs, and friendships are being formed for the better. The assistance programme is under way with a pilot scheme, and we are working toward becoming a fully accredited provider.

As for status, that remains to be seen. It will be the job of the trustees to determine which direction things move in regards to funding, but I have a deep seated reluctance to go for public support when our own government fails us with the covenant we signed as servicemen/women that is not being fullfilled. (I won't continue with this but you can see why I'm leaving this side of things to the trustees!)

We do have professional people in guidance with this 'initiative' from both the animal welfare world and from the medical side of things. But the aim is to "promote the health and wellbeing of Veterans and their Dogs through actively engaging in ownership activities" and is not solely about assistance dogs.

Yes I'm passionate about this. Extremely passionate, and I'll see this through to a positive end especially with the good support and recognition that we have received. Yes it is early days, and hence the request for togs to help gather photos for the website. But we are not far off from launching now, just need some pictures.

I hope this explains things a little better for you fantastic people, and I am truly grateful for the offers received, all of which are actively being sought to bring to fruition. I will now sit and collate the list of known veterans that will have photos taken, and those offers from here, and then I'll scratch my head when locations are a bit clearer.

Thanks for reading this, and bear with me folks as I'm juggling many things at the moment to bring these things all together.

Fantastic ! How about a photo of you with your dog? Or failing that a picture of your own dog alone? :)
You are the perfect subject !

No problem, i am a firm believer in the therapeutic benefits of Dogs, i know when i was going through a particularly bad period of my life my dogs gave me a reason to get up in the morning, when it would have been quiet easy to stay in bed and pull the covers over my head until the world went away, i have also seen first hand the benefits of assistance dogs for physically impaired people, a friend is a trainer at dogs for the disabled.

If you need anything near Glastonbury, shout.

(Or posting here would probably work better, thinking about it).

Well I don't need to preach to the converted ! Thank you for sharing this, and at one point I was exactly the same myself.

I'd be willing to try n help if you need any south yorkshire/derbyshire or surrounds ?

Another Essex man here, give me a shout if I can help.

If I haven't replied to any of you personally then please accept my apologies, but I guarantee that I have added you all to my tick list, and I have been working through my contacts within the veteran community to try and find people within the locality of you wonderful people who have made offers of help.

I will keep searching for suitable 'matches' and will post details in the first post, I will also PM those of you that I can match specifically.

Getting there though . . . . :)

MacPingu,

Referring to your update of locations: Although you don't have any locations in my immediate vicinity, I'm happy to cover the Exeter and Cullompton locations if you can't get anyone closer to do them :)

Wow, fantastic offer Bristolian, but far too far out of your way for these ones, but I am humbled by you offering to do these.

I have just put out an updated request through those Veterans I am in contact with, and will wait for updates of who is willing and where. Updates will get posted here of course.

I am very sure that we'll get someone on the radar for the Bristol area. Some veterans are taking a while to get back to me, but in general the response is positive, and word is geting around.

Hi Sue

Sent you a PM with more information.

Thanks, I am sure we can arrange something. It is an excellent cause and I would love to help.

Hiya

As a people shooter who's chosen charity is an an animal rescue, it would be quite remiss of me not to offer any help I can here. Please do stick me down for London [anywhere north of the river] and Hertfordshire, I live on the border of both and regularly travel across both so happy to cover anywhere in those areas if any willing veterans come forward.

I'm Exeter based but at the moment sans driving license (medical not legal reason!) so can't help much until January when (as long as medical advice says so), I can reapply for the license and start driving again. Once I'm mobile, I'll let you know and should be able to help. Fairly able photographer, although people aren't my area of interest - I'll do my best though.

No worries Nod,

I'll keep you on my list, and we can do something once you are mobile again. And don't worry about the people part, we can stick to the animals !

Thank you Yvonne.
I do actually have someone on my 'to do' list in London, just need to check where he is and I'll get the details.
Can't get over how helpful and kind people are being here at TP. Quite humbling, but goes to show the type of people that hang out here ! :)

Cool ! Added to the list. :)

two of my soon-to-be step brothers in law are in the forces
one in the army and one in the navy
also then one foster-cousin too
should be all turning up at the weekend
is there anything I can ask them about their contacts?

Hi Matt,

The best thing that I can ask is for you to tell them about 'Veterans with Dogs' and what it will mean for those guys in the future when they have finished service. We are limited at the moment until we launch the website, and then everything will get pushed forward. But we happily welcome contact with our current serving personnel, and we would happily run any stories that were relevant.
I guess you should mention it before their weekend kicks in, as I can imagine just how it will run !!!!!

Regards

Craig
