I have finally got my new desktop pc today, I am trying to retreive all my images and photos from my old hard drive, I am using a external sata usb device and can access all the folders apart from what I want, my photos and music are in the "users folder" but if I get a message saying I don't have permission to access this folder, click continue to get permanent access but the bar scrolls across the top of the screen but nothing happens. I can see all the program files no problem ??? windows 7 os and old one was vista.

Thanks Dean

Just downloading the images now, it may take a while, I am just struggling to find my inbox folder, can't find it in the location suggested in an earlier posting, its not a big worry, found all my contacts so half the problem solved.

mail on vista the data folder should be:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

Thanks Neil,

I will haver another look tomorrow, My brain is fried tonight, the joys of setting up a new pc.
You don't happen to know where I can get a codec for nikon raw, it appears that i'm running 64 bit windows 7 ( not sure if they are all 64 bit) home premium. ??

Thanks for your help.

Dean

If you had the next Windows 7 up ( proffessional) you would be able to run Virtual pc which allows you to run XP within the Windows 7. This then allows you to run 32 bit older software. Just set one up for work. The problem was that Microsoft wouldn't let me download virtual pc with Home premium installed. It had to be win 7 pro or above. Shame really as it works quite well.
The upgrade was about £70 but that was with a 'deal' due to buying at same time as pc.

Win 7 comes in both 32 and 64 bit but you can't swop over without a new version and a complete rebuild of the drive unfortunately.
