Just wondering if someone can help with this as it is driving me to distraction

Every time I create a new folder, (Right Click and click create new folder), I get a popup box that says Windows Explorer has stopped working and is checking for a solution, then I pop up saying Windows explorer must be restarted.

This resets the position of everything on my desktop that has been moved since the last restart. Its driving me to distraction and before doing a full reinstall thought I would ask in case anyone else has suffered and found a solution

System Specification
Dell 7100 XPS PC running Windows 7 Pro 64Bit
16Gb Ram, 3 * 1.5Tb HDDs, Athlon 6 Core CPU

Any help or advice appreciated before I adjust it with a nearby hammer!

If this is a recent thing, perhaps system restore might help?

Cheers Guys,

Yep already tried scannow and that showed nothing, also have done repair installs so no way to restore (Had tried that also before the the repair),

Really looks like a fresh install will be the only way, just dont fancy that as I always forget to back something up!

If you are going to reinstall....Use windows easy transfer to save the windows stuff on your current machine to a plug in drive and then restore after a reinstall. You can choose what to include when creating it and get to choose again if you don't want to restore everything.
It's good at saving the things you might forget to do. You will still have to install all your programs but a lot of the settings for them will transfer.

If you have a new hard drive for the operating system then you could just pull the old one and be able to go back to it if you find something missing on the new install.

Many Thanks That sounds good, I have been looking at some Cheap(ish) SSD Drives in the local Maplin store, I understand this speeds up the boot time etc, so was thinking of installing the OS on a 256Gb SSD as I have a spare SATA port on the motherboard, that will then leave me with the 3 1.5Tb HDDs for programes and storage.

I already have all my Outlook email PSTs stored on a remote drive after a previous disaster when I lost all my old emails. But the above seems a good way as I always seem to forget a load of stuff then go scrabbling for the original install discs to get everything up and running again.

Oh well at least it will keep me busy for a couple of rainy days :(

I wouldn't have considered Maplin for SSD purchase. Not checked model numbers but I recently bought a 256Gb Samsung 830 series SSD and it is currently under £150 at Amazon etc. Maplin have a Samsung 256Gb SSD for £199.

Cheers, Will check them out, it was just there is a Maplin Store in Derby I go past most days so was easy to go in there and pick one up, but will check online for better deals.

Crucial use RMSD - roughly x2 days from ordering
