Help please !!!

I was sent this by a friend in Scotland.
She attended a wedding in Cardiff many years ago and just can't remember whereabouts in the city it was.
The only clue I have are these two photos (sorry photos of photos so not very clear), but she would love to know the name and location of the church if anyone recognises it.
I've also attached a full size crop of the plaque outside if that helps. The only detail I can pull out of it are the dates 1914-1919 so I assume it's a WWI memorial, but I don't know whether anyone can get any more from it.

No idea Sarah, not sure but perhaps your best clue would be the three coats of arms above the door. They might be significant for this church. Email the pic to a historian in Wales they might be able to help. Or there might be some clever git on TP. There`s usually one that knows everything about everything on here :D

I have posted them onto my facebook for you, there are a number of Cardiff yesterday type pages, hopefully someone will recognise it.

Do we know if the pictures were taken at the same location?

The water in the background suggests somewhere like Bute Park or Roath Park.

Are you sure it is in Cardiff? The shields above the door include a Thistle and the cross of St Andrew both of which have more of a connection with Scotland!

Fair point, though the red sandstone masonry wouldn't be out of place in South Wales

It wouldn't be out of place over much of Scotland either..

:) Thanks for the input so far all !!!

To answer the questions :

> Yes - both photos are taken at the same location.
> And it's certainly not outside the realms of possibility that this is in Scotland :D

It's a work friend / colleague based in the Edinburgh office. Conversation went something like "I came to Cardiff once - for a wedding a long time ago but I can't remember exactly where. If I send you some photos, can you try to work out where it was".
Anyway I've drawn a complete blank, which is why I've asked you good people of TP.

I am inclined to agree that it looks at least as likely it is Scotland rather than South Wales.

I would suggest she confirm which country it was before pursuing this any further.

If she can't contact the people whose wedding she attended for some reason (which would be the obvious course of action! :)) provided it was before 2005 and she can remember the full name of at least one of the people getting married, she should be able to look up the marriage record on findmypast.co.uk. A rough idea of the which year should help a bit.

You need to pay to see the full record, but you can find the date and which town a marriage happened in for no charge.

Trawl up and down every street in cardiff using google streetview.

I'll get me coat.

I would say the bloke in the kilt in the 2nd pic would have put it in Scotland rather than Wales, as would the Saltire and thistle over the church door.

I've worn my kilt to weddings in Bavaria and Luxembourg..

.. but the architecture is persuasive.

If you could read some of the names on the war memorial there may be an unusual surname that may lead to a place via a google search?

Yeah . . . I'll just start that now. Might be done in a few weeks time if I'm lucky

I've tried that, but just can't extract enough detail out of it :(

Now that is a really good idea. Looking at the dresses I'd say that this was some time in the 80s.
I'll try to get some names out of her - I don't know her that well, but I presume that there's a genuine reason that she can no longer ask the couple involved.

Yep. I'm also going to get back to her tomorrow and make sure that she's sent me the photos from the right wedding that actually WAS in Cardiff and not got herself mixed up with photos from a completely different Edinburgh wedding from around the same time !
