Yes
I was twisting the barrel playing with this lens when I accidently screwed the inner barrel off!
its only hanging on by the data cable!

I really need a service manual but I cant find anywhere to get them from.

I can't afford to send this lens away for repair just yet so I'd be happy to give it a go myself

Have you tried holding it in postion and twisting back so it'll draw it back into place again.

its quite complicated because of the data cable. its getting caught if you try to twist. It twists with the barrel which leads me to believe it needs to be in the absolute right position or it will tear off the data cable.

I actually meant twisting the focus ring to see if it drew the barrel in.

It's a 105 macro isn't it, I could have a look at mine to see what it should look like, but i ain't breaking it to see how it goes back together.

its way to complicated without some understanding

its not a nice fit. nothing fits in nicely.
The two parts are very stiff. They align up into this meta groove system.

from looking at it i'd imagine it pushes back into place and locks rather than twist however that's just a guess :)

I just twisted it off.

You'd like to think it just pushes on. It would make it easier to repair if it was.

The thing is that on both barrels there are cut metal groves which it spirals down by the looks of things.
I have half dismantled it to un couple the data cable to stop it from snapping. I have re assembled it now so its ready to be shipped for repair.. however I am gonna hang on for the weekend to see if anyone comes up with a dismantle guide.

There is a definite stop when you extend the barrel fully out, obviously you've either broken that off which allowed the barrel to extend too far or its somehow jumped the stop and your going to have to try to relocate the "stop"to where it's supposed to be.

So assuming that it's jumped the stop:

Looking at the picture you've posted, the rear part of the lens, at the front there is 3 edges of tubes, the focus ring, the silver bit with the grooves and a inner "guide". The focus ring when in "M" not "AF" will turn the silver bit, the guide will not turn.

What i suggest is line up the repo scale on the barrel with the distance window on the rear part of the lens, making sure that 0.313 is in the window lined up with the white line(twist focus ring to the right) ,sit it on a desk lens mount down and apply pressure downwards, hopefully there will be a click and when you twist the focus ring to the left all will be well.

As I'm typing this i realize that the Canon mount may not have the Manual focus option on the lens:bonk: in which case what i've said is no use to you.

I really hope this helps:)

It looks like one I repaired last year if so its quite simple you do screw it back in but you have to find the proper thread to hold tight as everything inside will turn also you have to get the barrel to match up or the focus will be a mile out so dont tighten till you are sure if you can send me some detailed pics and if its the same I can talk you through it all

Yes, you needt to attach the focus helecoid in the exact position to get infinity in the correct place.

I would appreciate any help in repairing this if you think it'll be possible!

Tomorrow afternnon I will post more detailed photographs to aid in your assistance
:)

Ok I have a little time tonight to try n fix this once more.

I have it in front of me.

I am going to try what someone mentioned above about pressing it down.

I'll keep posted and will update in a few with pictures.

Nah there is no way I can get it to go back on without knowing exactly what I am doing.

I'm gonna send it away for repair. Thanks anyway for the help.

Won't it be tricky to package in it's present condition if you are sending it in the post?.

Ah, missed the following

[I have re assembled it now so its ready to be shipped for repair.. however I am gonna hang on for the weekend to see if anyone comes up with a dismantle guide.]
