Help me remember the name of an old DOS game - SOLVED!

Hi all

I have been searching for a game I used to play in the early 90's. In the game, you control and old scientist (I think) and you have to keep some sort of machine running.

I seem to remember the game being a single screen wide, but scrolling up and down (depending on where you go).There is definitely a bike at the bottom of the map / game area which you have to use from time to time to generate electricity.

I have a feeling it has the word Mechanic in the title, but I cannot find it anywhere. Any ideas or clues would be greatly appreciated. To be honest, if anyone can even remember playing the game, it would be useful to know I'm not going mad, as I cant find evidence of its existence anywhere. :bang::bang:
 
Amazing!! Thanks Neil, can you list any details you remember of the game that I haven't mentioned. This has become the most important task of the day at work now (we are very busy) so any additional info is greatfully received.
 
Thanks both, I have searched online but with only the words Mechanic (or maybe Machine) to go by, its not going well. There are no games in these lists that match. I am hoping someone remembers the name of it, as I may be wrong, and Mechanic and Machine have nothing to do with its name.
 
It wasn't Mad Professor Mariarti was it? I had that on an acorn and it features operating some daft machine with an old professor.

Your right, it doesn't look like you can go very far. I've just watched a video on youtube, unfortunately it's not the game i'm thinking of.

I hoped the bike at the bottom of the area would be a good memory jogger, as this is my most vivid memory of the game.

Judging by how difficult this is to find, I'm guessing it wasn't a particularly popular game :)
 
It sounds a bit like The Incredible Machine (possibly.....)
 
So this game is bugging the hell out of me again so I've decided to revive this thread for fresh eyes. There was definitely a bike at the bottom that was used to generate power and you moved a guy to various parts of the screen, often vertically to carry out various tasks.

Anyone?

Thanks for the replies so far, I'll have a look on the escapist forum shortly and see what they come up with. It's not manic miner or gizmos, not the incredible machine unfortunately :(
