Yes
I put the order into Amazon at £1,068 and was about to check out when it stated 1-2 months delivery. I phoned them up and they confirmed that it would be 1-2 months unless I bought from one of their other vendors. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but a lot of those other vendors are selling grey imports which Canon UK service department may not want to touch?

John Lewis are doing a £50 cash back but it's still £1,112

Jessops tell me they wont price match online so they're £1,159

Are there any other deals to be had this side of the VAT rise in January?

It throws up Curry's as the next best deal at £1,102 with the £60 discount code. I either bite the bullet or hold off till Christmas. I always make the wrong decision, the other year was a TV which then dropped £200 1 month later:'(

London Camera exchange might be worth a try. the Worcester branch had them 1149 think they got a deal on you get a spare battery with that as well. Not sure about stock levels though.

If it were me I'd pay slightly more and buy from John Lewis as Curry's/Dixons aren't known for their customer care if anything goes wrong with items bought from them.

just order from amazon . i ordered my d7000 from them and they did quote 1-2 months but was delivered within 10 days

by the way didn't know amazon had a phone customer service number??

I bought mine from John Lewis for the reasons highlighted above (bricks & mortar store on high street, UK model from UK store, store renown for good customer service). Also, their extended warranty, which includes accidental, was significantly cheaper than the competition at £47 for 3 years. So if you're interested in getting extra cover, then factor that into the total cost. Some aren't.

The difference between the Amazon price and John Lewis is £44, with the cashback. Hardly worth getting excited about on a camera costing + £1000 and JL have an excellent reputation.

Have you asked Kerso for a quote? Mail him directly, he offers better prices on direct sales than through his EBay site.

If you box clever you may be able to pick up a camera in the January sales as the VAT increase doesn't kick in till Jan 4th making it a bit more of a bargain.
Bit trickier if ordering over the internet though as there's various definitions of when the transaction date is .... but I won't bore you with them!

I would think that Kerso would offer a very competetive price, I've bought loads of gear off him and he is good. However the Camera body would not be UK stock, even though he provides an international warranty, I'm not too sure how robust that would be.
Best regards, Mike.

Mike, that international warranty is as good as anything you'd buy in UK. I had a problem with my 5D2 from Kerso, Canon Elstree fixed it (As did Canon in Barcelona) without a single quibble over Ian's receipt. Absolutely 100% covered and I speak from personal experience  Hope that puts a few minds at rest.

I just read the John Lewis cashback form on their website and it only states 500D in the Canon offer? I thought someone forgot to update the form but the dates are right. Are you sure the 7D has the £50 cash back?

Mr MfWild13, a member here has a great offer on a lightly-used 7D. Though it was bought from Kerso, I too can testify that Canon UK has no problems recognising international warranties.

At the asking price, what have you got to lose?

Cheers

Er, I never said it did. :) The 7D doesn't qualify for £50 cashback, despite what JL's website suggests.

The only cashback Canon is offering against the 7D at the moment is the one whereby you have to buy a lens within 3 months of buying the body. You're effectively getting the cashback on the lens, but have to buy a body to 'pre-qualify'.

This is odd. The JL website http://www.johnlewis.com/230696921/Product.aspx implies that the 7D qualifies for £50 cashback, and the only indication that it doesn't is the list of checkboxes for the camera details in the T & Cs if you follow the link. Pretty misleading. Has anyone called them to ask?

Kerso's "international warranty" is fine. It doesn't really matter anyway, because the gear is all sold with a UK invoice/receipt. I also seem to remember a thread a while back, where Ian said he had never come across any problems with this, and would make good himself if necessary. I'd buy from him without any hesitation.

In Jessops you can pay via interest free credit over 12 months. So it may be £50 more, but you don't cough it all up at once, and you have a local shop to return it to should there be an issue.

Personally I don't like most Jessops stores, but it was the best way for me to buy the 7D before I sold my other bodies to raise the capital.

I called JL today and there is defo no cash back offer. It's an error on their website and will be changing it asap.

Thanks Steve. That clears it up, but JL have a good reputation and I'm rather surprised they didn't agree to honour it for people who asked in the meantime. It would be good business practice, and the price - with cashback- isn't such a sweetheart deal that people would be breaking the doors down to grab a 7D!

Must admit I was dissapointed they didn't honour it either, it took 2 phone calls to find out it was an error. In fairness they did call me back on both occassions as promised. Calumet are offering the 7D with spare battery (flash promotion they call it) for £1155 so I'll probably get mine there.
