Help me design my studio.

Very nice image gary but the skin is way over exposed - Red is clipped badly and the GB values are very close to being clipped too.

I love your images but they are very bright - Just too bright .

I hear you :D They are mega bright.

To be honest, I am 100% open to crit (stupid not to be), and I have been meaning for a VEEERRRRRRRRRRRY long time to start a thread on studio exposures....particularly, the use of deliberate over exposure / over contrast / over saturation...I think for whatever reason I am really drawn to high(er) key, not trying to confuse it with high key at all, but super bright I guess. I think on black, with real vivid colours, it's amazing...on white less so, but I still prefer it to a mid exposure...

For example, this really feels under exposed based on my personal preferences:

I will do the thread soon enough, I just want to gather some examples from various shots first...

There's been a few posts about the hilite recently.

Here's one from me. A different setup from normal and I lost a little contrast sooc but the train was much better.

Before

After (just a quick Lightroom edit - no Photoshop work)

Do you have a pic of the set up for this somewhere?

It's not so much under exposed as a lack of contrast in the righnt areas. Add a wee action to give it some punch. There's too much light on the clothes still - arms look burnt out!

When I look again at your image above the colour looks odd too - can I post a very quick edit? Might not be to your taste either but I liked it :)

I use a living room space too. Not quite the same - I have a TV left (behind the 135cm Octabox and a couch on the right wall (no inshot) and it's just enough space for this.

Large Octa with a 400BX Elinchrom light on the subject and 2x 400BX lights in the 6'x7' HiLite background.

Thanks to tfboy for the 3d room - looks amazing :)

Yes sorry too :)

I'll PM you gary - you're looking not to edit so might be too much - But can be very quick once you have a look you like!

Hi Guys,

i think the colours on Garys pictures are spot on, venture have done well with this sort of highly saturated overexposed type of picture its their hallmark and people like them looking bright and happy even if they are not realistic.
