I am being rather naughty and nicking Marosser's idea for next year as I think its brilliant! I have only been doing photography for 1 yr so still have masses to learn and my shots are not that good. I figured this would be a good way to look at this and also force myself to think a little more about what shots I take.

To that end, I would ask fellow TP'ers to pick what to photograph starting with each letter of the alphabet.

So, ideas for letters A to Z please!!

Thanks in advance!!

Angst.

There's a challenge.. don't shoot an OBJECT.. shoot an emotion. What does angst look like? DO some research and shoot something that makes your audience feel angst.

You are setting yourself up, matey, but how about - airborne?

However I think the idea is good and if I too can nick it.

How about starting it in the first week of January and have the next letter every two weeks, so we would end with "Z" in the last week of December next year?

What do folks think?

Dave

Blinding idea. I might try something similar, it'll keep me on my toes. I won't make a new thread though, I'll just try and grab ideas from this one.
A sensible (who? Me?) Suggestion. How about Arachnid, spiders etc.

Terrible idea IMHO. I am certain many will disagree, but that's my feeling. If you honestly need a letter to start off with ... well, you've little imagination. Like those 365 "projects" - I really despise them. What happens is, people force themselves to shoot any old crap, and that satisfies them enough, thinking "job done, I shot a detailed corner of a coffee cup today, boooya!"

Don't go by a letter, go with your gut.

Sometimes the true test of creativity is interpreting a theme set by someone else. It takes you out of your comfort zone, and you really have to think about it. This is very different from the 365 thing, as those are a shot per day, and yes, inevitably, you'll end shooting anything to just ensure you shoot one a day, but a set theme for something that you can work on longer term, why should that produce a "good enough" result? That's down to how diligent the photographer is.

You need MORE imagination if you need to shoot something externally set.

Antagonistic

Not at all, more like a 'get up off yer behind and inspire yourself!" - I mean, come on ... OP wants people to name objects from letters of the alphabet!? Not just recommend something to shoot.

Anus?

Crap can look good if you have an eye for it!;)

I love this idea - the concept of shooting to cause the viewer a specific emotion. I am not sure I have the skill for this yet but its definitely on my to do list for the future! Thank you!

Every 2 weeks sounds feasible to me! I cannot take any credit for the idea though as it was Marrosser who had it first!

Little imagination? No, just perhaps a little lack of direction being new to all this. Your other comment about 'getting off my arse and inspiring myself'...not that helpful to be honest. In fact I thought it was down right rude - I am sure that you were once a novice photographer who was overwhelmed not only by the technical aspects of photography, but by all the different styles, textures and ideas that come into photography? and of course, the frustration that comes from having ideas in your head that you are unable to translate into photographs due to lack of skills??? Or perhaps you werent. Either way, I come onto this forum for help, guidance and advice, not unwarranted negativity.

I do not have the skills yet to produce the photos from my inspiration - this is the whole idea of this. I want to improve my skills so that I can do my inspiration justice.

I never mentioned the word OBJECTS...I asked for ideas - this could be anything from physical objects, to a word, to an emotion..anything.

I would interpret the theme how I thought.

Hi Sam You will find this useful TP A - Z of Inspiration! - List of Themes http://SPAM/6oh2l2

thanks very much for this - and everyone's ideas and suggestions!!

I am very grateful for you input and will have a look at the link and take it from there.

I must say, I am leaning towards Abstract for my first one!!

This is definitely the way forward for me if I want to improve my photography - thanks for suggesting it.

I guess you could try to either cause the emotion in the viewer or depict the emotion. Could also be a concept rather than an emotion.

X-xenophobia?... or even a Xanthippe...an ill tempered woman(plenty of them around!)
And, an interesting set of suggestions....

Sure you'd be right for a photographer with some experiences, but thats forgetting its just practice and fun for others isn't it? ....I mean take a step back a second ... Have you inspired anybody with those words of experience ....or instead have you just belittled a fun idea and slated all 52ers hard and valiant efforts.

It doesn't take much to knock someone down hey... anyway...no beef intended..in fact it turns out I was being antagonistic too. ;)
