Help me choose a camera strap!!!!!

Hiya folks.

I've recently got a 7dmk2 along with a 100-400 for wildlife and want a strap to make it easier to carry around.

I looked at the optech utility sling but i dont like the way it connects to the camera.
I've looked at the blackrapid RS-sport which looks good but the problem is I would like to have a manfrotto QR plate on the tripod foot of my 100-400 and im not sure it will be secure enough if attached to the bottom of the QR plate.

Is there a way to attach the strap via a carabiner or such like? Or can anyone recommend a similar strap that can attach to it?

Or does anyone use anything that they could recommend?

I use Optech utility Sling, it is very good and I do recommend it

The only problem with that is that I'd have to change my tripod head as at the minute i don't use an arca mount, its the manfrotto one.

I have an optech atrap for my 6D thats just attached to the normal lugs and thats comfortable so might just be good to get one of those, its just the mounting bits that i need to work out.

Depending on which manfrotto plate you use, you can get one of these:

I used one like that for some time. Works pretty well and the loop tucks neatly out of the way when not in use.

Keep an eye on the classifieds, I picked up a new, unused one there for £20 a couple of weeks ago.
 
Nearest I've got to your lens in an old 80-200mm f2.8 which appears to be made of steel! Very heavy. I really like the Joby sling strap. It has a nice kind of semi-automatic slippy "pulley" arrangement which makes it easy to have a different length of hanging strap to using strap, automatically lengthens out when you lift the camera up. Can be easily locked up for a secure lens under under forearm protected carry in awkward situations. Attaches to tripod plate very securely and unwindably, or to lens foot. Looks a much better engineered attachment and more versatile sling than the more expensive Black Rapid. To make tripod or monopod mounting without detaching strap easily done with a longer than usual quick release plate with two tripod holes. Get the one for your body size, they're generously sized and big ones won't cinch up small enough for less than really big people.

Expensive but really strong and comfortable

Black Rapid have bought out an Arca Swiss plate which I'll buy as well. You have a lot of weight there so
make sure you buy decent. It's awful if the fixing comes loose and you hear the crash on the floor !

Have you looked at the Lens Loop Attachment from Optech

Really nice addition to the Utility Strap as you can attach it both the body and the lens for added security, and it doesn't rely on the tripod mounting screw either, as some people seem to think these aren't up to the job of mounting a strap too (i happen to disagree with that, but that's by the by)

I use an Optech pro loop strap with my 5D3 and 100-400. It's so comfy compared to the Canon strap, and really makes it feel like there isn't a lot of load.
 
Hi Nick. I'm afraid I've drawn a blank on finding the RT1.

You're welcome to borrow my Black Rapid RS7 for a few days if you want to give it a try.
 
I have the same setup and use the Peak Design slide. They do a pro plate which can attach to a manfrotto. The strap is easily moved from the lens foot to the normal camera attach point when using shorter lenses using the little lugs. The velcro is my home made adaption as I have managed to drop the camera body by inadvertently pressing the lens release button.

I have the Peak Design slide and its fantastic plus you can buy extra attachments/anchors that allow you to use the original Canon strap if you like rather than the slide strap. The strap itself is made from similar stuff that a car seat belt is made from and is extremely durable. The other good thing is the plates that they use are compatible with the 3 legged thing tripods. Great strap highly recommend!

Peak Design Slide with a Pro Plate if your tripod head is on the compatible list.
