I'm looking for a backpack for my 50D...

Now I'm just a beginner but I would like something which can accomodate 2-3 lenses, flash, tripod and some accessories. It should have the weather proof ability and can accomodate my 15.4" laptop as well... I hope it is a backpack for long trips so I want to put everything inside...

Budget around 100 pounds...

Thanks!:)

Lowepro fastpack 250, good sized camera compartment and seperate area for laptop and another area for clothes, food or more lens!

Tamrac expedition series???

I'm looking as well, this thread maybe of interest regarding Gem backpacks. They appear to be good quality and value.

Thanks everyone!

The fastback is OK but the material and quality is very normal I think.

No idea about Tamrac and Gem...could anyone give more details or new suggestions?

Thanks!

Kata 3N1-30  just to throw a cat in ;)

I had a kata, was a great bag, couldn't fault it, I just outgrew it.

I had a fastpack 350, excellent quality but I out grew it. I now have the flipside 400aw  and I've just orded a used Tamrac expedition 8x :D

The Redsnapper bags are very good quality and very well priced. Two sizes available too.

Recommend a Kata 467i,

I have the older version and it fits most of your needs. Good thing is that it does not look like a camera bag (read theft crime target) and the upper compartment is very generous- I can slide in a camera with hood reversed 70-200/ f4 attached.

I have a Crumpler Farmers Double which is big enough for a D60, 2 extra lenses and a laptop and gorillapod. I doubt it would hold a bigger tripod though... I'd add this one to your shortlist. :)

Regarding the Katas mentioned above, it's not the 3N1-10, 20 and 30 that hold laptops/netbooks. Its the 11, 22 and 33.

It seems that all the backpack mentioned above can only hold a mini tripod?

Thanks!

Gem. If I would lost/break mine, i would buy 2 x new ones. Love them.

I've owned a Lowepro slingshot 250 and I currently own a stealth reporter D200AW, slingshot 302AW and today I bought a fastpack 350 as I want to take my laptop on holiday with me.
I can't fault the build quality / material they use and their customer service was second to none when I lost the tripod strap for my 302AW.

can this hold a big tripod? I mean normal size tripod not mini tripod...

There are several sets of straps to securely hold your tripod (any sized) on the outside of the bag. One of my photos in the stream shows this. The bag is big enough to hold on the inside, but there wouldn't be enough space without removing the interior camera (which wouldn't really make sense).

All that stuff about brands, what about design features like not putting the side which is against your back onto the ground/into the damp grass to get at your gear? What about waterproofing? What about room for expansion when you acquire another body/lens?

It opens from the back (the side against your back) for protection primarily, but would also cover your point above. It has waterproof pockets, the material means rain runs off it, and for heavy rain, there is a waterproof jacket. There is enough room in this bag for most enthusiasts.

Hey, I don't sell these bags, just think they're pretty good. Make your own mind up :)
