Okay.

I'm looking for general type, walkabout lens - must be FF. Canon fit.

I currently have the 24-105 f4,which I love.

I am currently thinking:-
Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8 L USM
Canon 17-40 f4 L
Tamron 24-70 f/2.8
Canon 16-35

(last 2 are at higher end of price range).

Any thoughts or alternatives please ???

Cheers

I should also add, with having the 24-105 and not being MASSIVELY concerned about going much wider, is it actually worth getting a new walkabout as I'd only benefit from 1 extra stop ??

Canon 24-70 f2.8? As wide and a bit faster, new is a bit expensive as it's now a mk2, so you might consider previous version 2nd hand?

I would stick with what you have got and spend the £500 on going places....

Re: the walkabout, why spend so much money and end up with two lenses covering the same shooting options with just a stop of difference? One stop at that aperture isn't going to make a massive difference in terms of "style" of photo (DOF) and are you pushing ISO so hard that you need it?

If you really wanted a gamechanger in that walkabout range, get a fast prime and sacrifice the zoom-ability. If it's an f/1.8 it's likely to be tiny and potentially you can carry both around with you anyway...

I'll give you 10 pence, will that help.

I had the 24-105 for years and for a walkabout on FF you can't do much better, the 24-70 is not called the brick for nothing!
So I will chuck my twopennoth in-get a fisheye!
If you can stretch to it get the Canon 8-15 otherwise get the sigma 15mm, seriously I am not jokeing, I got the siggy 15mm ( could not afford the Canon zoom) it puts a whole new perspective on your photography
