My question is is there any reason I shouldnt buy lightroom 3 instead of 4.... I am pretty new to photography and think buying 3 cheaper now and then upgrading when the time comes would work better for me....any downsides to this?

As long as LR3 supports the raws from your camera - then it will be great for you to learn all its processes ... LR4 has different sliders that some like more than 3 but it isn't a necessity

LR3 and 4 use the same methods for high ISO noise reduction which is a big plus over earlier LR releases

Hi,
For the price of L/R 4 it's not worth it to buy L/R 3
Have a look around some of the other photo sites see if you cannot find a discount voucher.
L/R 4 is a better version of the software, especially for photographers IMO.
You may also find more on-line FREE training videos for L/R 4.

I have used both and prefer lr4, just save up and get lr4.

It really depend on the cost difference. If you can get LR3 at a really good price, then provided it supports your camera then it should be fine. I used LR3 for well over a year before LR4 came out and thought it was an excellent tool.

Have a look at some of the tutorials on the web before you start to get some idea of the workflow.

You can also download a trial version of LR4 to try if you want.

It would help if you can give us what the price is for the LR3 you are thinking about buying compared with the LR4 price. Also, where you are finding LR3 for sale still. You don't want the worst of both worlds where you end up with LR3 and a dodgy copy.

Anthony.

well on amazon I can get the full version of 3 for abour $83 after shipping and 4 I only looked at the full version straight from Adobe for $149 thats the download.... It just seems like since its new to me why not save the $66... but you have a lot of good points
