Over the weekend, I was photographing the deer rut in Bushey Park in the UK. I got charged by a big stag who took offence to my 500mm and thought I was going to take his ladies away. He knocked me back and my camera/lens/tripod onto the ground and luckily didn't pursue any further.

Got up, dusted off and carried on. No problem taking pics and just a bit of damage to the tripod. This morning I tried to take my 500mm of my 1ds and it wont come off. It is like it is jammed, however, working perfectly. Not going to really force it in case I do any major damage.

I am thinking I need to take it to a Canon service/repair centre, unless anyone else has any suggestions.

I did just speak to Fixation who said it may cost up to £200 if they have to go in via the back!!!!!

Thanks

D

is everything perfectly straight? sounds like possible bent the mount or something?

Never mind that where is the close up of the Stag.

Just no dedication to the art anymore:)

Seriously glad you are ok and if you have to send it off check your insurance first.

Are you a member oc CPS (Canon professional Services)? They may be able to provide some help.

I had exactly the opposite problem today. First thing in the morning I got a call from a lady who's got a Canon 500 from us, photographing the deer in the Cairngorms. Apparently the lens fell off her camera while she was walking with it from one site to another....

Looks like the Canon service centre is going to have a sudden rush of 500s!

If it's a major problem...I'll give you a fiver each for them...or £7.50 as they come ;) :D

yup, you were very very lucky - much more so than I was - thanks to the infection taking hold making sure the healing process didn't happen, thats meant I've ripped through the stiches and the wounds on my leg have opened right back up. I've got a couple of holes in my leg that you could stick the top half of your thumb into :(

I'd love to see it too - find out if its the same one that got me. Am begining to wonder if Bushy Park has a real problem Stag........
