If it's still in warranty take it in to your nearest Apple store, they'll often swap it out for free. Make sure that you've backed it up & sync'd it before you go though.

What about a claim on household insurance, if you have it? Nice new shiny one.

Off topic but I have an iPhone 4 with smashed front glass is it a heat and replace job? If so where can I get the glass from?

With the iPhone you can buy the full LCD and digitiser as a sealed unit and replace. The hardest part is remembering where the shed load of tiny screws go back to. (there are some pretty good how to videos around). Part should set you back £40-50.

Or, (if you don't want to DIY) Apple do an out of warranty replacement for user damage for £119. Make a Genius appointment at any Apple store.

Cheers everyone apple option might be worth it as my DIY Is not good with tiny screws

It's a good service, go in and be nice and if it's still in warranty some genius staff have been known to do free replacements even with damage, if not, ask for the out of warranty charge replacement. It's still a cheap way to get a new iPhone.
