I'm at a bit of a loss, I've just had my Panasonic FT2 die (water inside but nothing has entered around the normal seals as everything is dry so really annoyed!!!), so now need to get a new camera before I travel from Alexandria to Hurghada where I will be snorkeling. Does anyone have any clue where I could get one in Egypt, either Alexandria, Cairo or Hurghada?

The other option is one of the waterproof bags that I could put my Canon SX1 inside if I could find such a thing.

I have so far only been able to find the Fuji XP60 for a silly high price over here which isn't quite what I was hoping for. Would like something similar to Canon D20 or Nikon AW110.

All help appreciated!!

Not sure if these are any good to you Mark  As mentioned in there specialty and professional cameras, lenses, and lighting can be hard to buy at any price. Hope you do get sorted though and have a great time

Taken from a 'divernet' article -

Focus - This underwater photography and video store stocks camera odds and ends and offers underwater camera rental, dive lights and video lights. It is located at the south end of town, just opposite the Liquid Beach Club and close to Papas 1. www.redsea-images.com.

Otherwise, speak to the staff at a dive centre. I dive with Emperor divers in Hurghada, who are located at the Hilton Hotel. If you're planning on any snorkelling trips I can definitely recommend them, and their staff will be very helpful if you book an excursion with them, particularly Shaun (technical dive instructor and sometime 'snorkel-bitch'!) if he is in Egypt at the moment. I can't remember if they rent or sell cameras off the top of my head - www.emperordivers.com.

If you're up for an excursion, try to get out to 'Sha'ab el erg' if possible, where a pod of wild dolphins live and are spotted on a very regular basis.

Hope that helps a bit

Mike

I love a bit of good old fashioned detective work

Mike, that was great info!!!! I've spoken to them and they have put me on to two local shops which can hopefully help. Just waiting for a call back from one and the other to open. Heres hoping :)

Great stuff, hope it works out. If you go back to Emperor say 'hi' to Olwyn (divemaster and snorkel guide) and Mel in the shop from Mike, a.k.a. the slow diver with the big camera!

Oh, and be careful you don't get talked into their latest venture - a 5km snorkel. Far too much like hard work!
