Hello,
I'm on a business trip in Berlin and my D750 is unresponsive. Tried to take battery, lens, and mem cards out to reset it but no luck. I don't think it's the battery being drained as I believe the camera goes into standby if the power is left on (while I was flying and it was in my backpack).

I don't have a spare battery or a charger (short trip) so I was hoping to be able to drop by a camera store that sells Nikon and who may be able to diagnose the battery or camera body.

I'm in east Berlin but willing to travel to get to a reasonable capable store. Other than Calumet Berlin, any suggestions?

I'd probably try Calumet in your position, but other Berlin camera shops I'm aware of (although window-browsed rather than used for camera servicing) are:

Foto Braune, Karl-Marx-Strasse, 7. (just around the corner from UBhf Hermannplatz)
Foto Video Hess, Kaiser-Friedrich-Str. 87. (near UBhf Bismarckstraße)

All the other ones I know are second-hand gear shops.

Google to the rescue.. Nikon Service Point, Berlin, is:

FSB Photo and Service Berlin GmbH
Reginhard Str. 34
Tel +49 (0)30-461 50 81

They're open Monday - Friday 8-1, 2-5 (they close for lunch)

UBhf Osloer-Strasse

I think I'm resigned to Calumet. That will be a start anyway depending on what's wrong. Many thanks for the replies.

Good news and some mystery.

I went to Calumet and they checked the battery. It was dead flat. Thank goodness as we tried another battery and camera turned on.

Mystery is, camera should go into standby. I'll find out tomorrow if the shutter or some other button was depressed in the backpack and wore the battery down. There may be a lot of black photos.

Anyway, after using our limited language skills ( I don't speak German and he didn't speak English) the nice man offered to charge it for me. It was dead flat. I'll be picking back tomorrow morning and should have a full charge.

All is well that ends well. [emoji108]

I always leave my cameras turned on - except when travelling. All it takes to flatten the battery is the lightest pressure on the shutter release to power up the camera (or some other button) and you're in trouble. I've had it happen, it's very common.

Good to know. I think since I was putting it in a non-camera bag in a section of the bag that shared space with many other items, buttons must have been pressed.

I am now shopping for a camera/laptop backpack. I want to be able to take my gear with me given the travel I do. Would be wasted opportunities otherwise.

That's exactly how it happens. In my case, I'd popped a pair of socks into my camera bag as a bit of extra padding, but forgot to turn the camera off.

The other thing is flash guns. Some models have very light switches that can easily catch and turn the things on. I've carefully arranged the partitions in my bags so this is impossible - at least in theory ;)
