As per title im a little annoyed to be getting error 99 on my 40d. Its only 6 weeks old!

So far to try and rememdy this issue i have done the following

1. cleaned contact points on battery and battery cap
2. tried with and without battery grip
3. turned on and off as per instructions on screen
4. cleaned contact points on lens
5. tried a different lens
6. tried a different memory card
7. put camera back to factory settings

Still the camera error 99s on me.

Any thoughts on what to do would be appreciated.

Thanks

Easily sorted if you bought it from a bricks and mortar shop, I would expect a straight exchange over the counter after a month, hassle if you bought online.

Was purshased from wilkinson cameras online.

And they have bricks and mortar branches don't they, better than a faceless warehouse probably, is there not one within travelling distance of you.
Have you tried ringing them ?.

Is there not another battery to remove, one of those tiny ones to save information.

Trying to call them now but it just keeps saying call cant be taken, cant find any opening hours for their sales lines. :bang:

There is but i cant get it to come out of the camera and i dont want to use anything to help it out incase i damage or mark the camara!

Is your month within 28 days? see the conditions here,

if not tell them you were trekking in the Andes when it happened and you just got back:D

Thanks for the t and cs, just checked my invoice purchase date was actually 8 weeks ago, not 6, my mistake!

So many problems with 40ds, why are they being unreliable

Loads on it if you google Error 99 40D seems that there is a debugging process that Canon Service can talk you through before sending it back to them not the suppliers, but I would try the suppliers first they might just exchange anyway.
There is mention of removing the tiny battery as well.
Best of luck.

If you paid by credit card you have nothing to worry about - any problems and your cc company will step in and sort it out as they are jointly liable.

Seriosuly though, is it just me, or are there LOADS of 40D problems on the forum at the moment?

Gary.

Its like anything else there is a lot of. You hear more complaints because there are a lot more of them out there. Theres a helluva lot more that are working fine that you DONT hear about!

Well after finding out the main sales line isnt open over the weekend I phoned one of the branches and spoke to on of the staff there. He reckoned that if the camera is in as new condition they will most likely replace it, and if its showing obvious signs of use then they will send it to canon for repair. So will be on the phone first thing monday morning to see what they have to say.

I just thought iw ould update this thread to say i got my 40d back from H.Lehmann where i sent it for warrenty repair yesterday. It had to have a new shutter. Been testing this afternoon and all seems well. Glad i got it back at long last!

Glad you have your camera back. May I ask how many shutter counts was on your camera before it packed up?

no more than 500.

With it only being 8 weeks old, the count must have been pretty low!

Indeed, out of those 500 over half were fired on the day it packed up while i was at the BSB.

Shot about 100 frames since i have had it back now and all seems to be well thank goodness.
