Well now that Ive got your attention, I was just wondering if anyone can help me or has had similar experience to this.

Ive had a few pc probs for a few weeks now, and though my son is a geek in training he still hasnt got around to looking at it for me, tut! Trubs are when booting up mainly.

Anyway, yesterday, I finally got the thing on, only to find that I couldnt access the site, but as I could get on others, I pressumed it must be down.
Then I received email notification of a reported post so I knew other peeps were on here.
Had a chat with Marcel on MSN & he got me in through the back door so to speak, but Im limited in what images I can see, and each page takes a while to fully load.

I naturally pressumed that my pc had finally gone up the creek but it doesnt explain why I can access other sites, or why I cant get on here from my sons pc either.
Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
It really is driving me crazy now!

Have you tried turning your router off for 30 seconds then back on again? If it is affecting more than one PC then it must be some common problem between the PCs and the net (I guess)

i had the same problem with photobucket few days back

Thanks for the response.
I did turn everything off this morning, unplugged everything (didnt wait a full 30 seconds though).
It just doesnt make sense! :bang:

Its so bad.. Im now reduced to having to look on ... other sites!

I'm no expert Glo - but some things I'd try in this situation:-

Delete your cookies, web cache and browsing history.
Delete your shortcut/bookmark for TPF and Google for a new one.

Run some Spyware detection - I find that's often behind a lot of problems and can really slow your computer down.

Good luck.

Thanks CT, Ive done all the above apart from the Spyware detection. (going to do that later though).
The thing thats the most puzzling is that we cant access the site on either of my sons comps either.
Its as if something is blocking me via my connection.
Im just having a search around the net to see what other peeps have done in this situation but as yet, Im having no luck!

Are you with AOL and using a netgear router by any chance?

I have had a hell of a time the last week with a similar problem. And I still don't have it fixed but it is much better. I found only some links I clicked worked, then others came up as page could not be displayed. It was (is) sporadic. I called AOL who tried and tried to help, to then in the end say contact Microsoft as I may need guidence in reinstalling IE  When i got hold of them, they said errrrm NO, it's Toshiba (laptop make with problem). So I called Toshiba ( do you have any idea how hard it was to find that number!?), who then referred me back to AOL after doing a 'dump' of some sort through the command prompt thing.

In the end I was back to AOL, and finally got someone in level 2 technical to run me through another process, where I cleared everything and changed some of the settings via the netgear routers site, and so far it's working better, just not 100%. But I can live with the odd 'this page could not be displayed'.

That wasn't much help was it?

Not much help Jo ... but a relief to hear anyway
Id got a gut feeling that its something along those lines causing the problem, so looks like a call to AOL is due.
I can live with the odd 'Page could not be displayed thing' ... just not this page!!!
Thanks muchly for your input. :)

This might have been overlooked but have you ever thought of banning AOL back to the hellspawn place that it came from? :D

hey inaglo that is exactly wat happenedwith me with photobucket tried both laptops nothing and on this one it went to white screen and said it was loading but wouldnt, so i left it loading for 4 hours and it eventually loaded up, mius photos etc, x's instead but after that it worked all fine again

Rofl! dont worry Marcel, just as soon as my one year contract is up ... theyre history.
Coincidently, I had a 'Which Guide to Broadband Providers' yesterday, and the two that were rated the highest were Zen & Waitrose, so they'll be on my list of considerations ... Oh! & AOL were way down.
But unfortunately, Im stuck with these ***** for the next few months! :bang:

Thing is this is the first time I have had any real issues with AOL and I have been with them for years  It's only been since they transferred servers or whatever it was about a month ago that I have had problems.

Hubby is taking the recent frustrations as a sign to try and push for the BT plan though  the one where you get phone, broadband and digital tv...

Oh and Glo, my inability to load TP yesterday was what finally tipped me over the edge of reason and made me go crazy at the tech team at AOL for giving me the run around

I suggest a swift tap on the top of the unit with a 2lb hammer, now that might seem a little excessive at first but when the wave of self gratification washes over you, you'll see where I'm coming from.

Won't help your Pc problem much though.......but a damn good thrashing never did anyone any harm :D

I'm a genius with a hammer.......want me to have a go at it for you ?

Its so bad.. Im now reduced to having to look on ... other sites!

This is SERIOUS  AOL is staffed by strange people who've never even held a camera, let alone visited TP, and so don't realise how totally p****d off you are. Hope your year's contract is up very, very soon so you don't have to suffer this extreme cruelty and stress again.

A good friend of mine always says that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing more than once and expecting different results...

This has always been true until I (sort of) became PC literate!:bang::D

Hope you can nuke the gremlins soon Glo - I know how you feel;)

Thanks peeps,

As you can guess, Im not the most pleasant person to be around right now.
Photobucket is another site I cant access, which means I cant see a lot of the pics on here either (and yet strangely some show!)

Unfortunately Im stuck with AOL for another 4 months ... just kill me now! :bang:

Don't get het up over it, as stated try spy ware terminator and anti virus full scan, as also advised unplugging the lot for about ten Min's or more. Also deleting cookies etc internet cash.
Oh and when you can ditch the AOL.
The bain of many net problems and sure to get worse since shift to talk talk i believe

It sounds like AOL have a problem with their DNS servers, have you tried using the IP address instead of the www. stuff ?

When you are free to move consider NDO.

I have used them for years and never had a problem.

They are British with a UK call centre.
Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Alternatively, Utility Warehouse do a package where if they have yur phone line and broadband you get a free laptop.

Glo try this:

Start > Accessories > Command Prompt
Type "tracert www.talkphotography.co.uk" without quotes and press return.
Wait for it to finish, will be up to 30 lines.
Then left click on the little C:\ icon at the top left of the window and Edit > Select All
Press return
Now reply here and Paste into the window, you should get something like this:

Trace complete.

That might give a clue as to why you're having problems with the site.

It sounds like AOL have a problem with their DNS servers, have you tried using the IP address instead of the www. stuff ?

AOLs big problems started a month ago for me - when they were merging their operations with CarphoneWarehouse. I had 1 week of appalling connectivity issues. The 'Tech Support !' staff were of less than no use, until I finally talked with a very nice English lady who explained their problems.

Since then the service has been about 90% (after 10 years of 100% service I may add).

Anyway, tonight it appears to have gone AWOL again.

Sorry I'm no help...but I feel your pain !!!!

Rich

Try releasing and renewing your IP number.

Thanks for all the input guys.
Just called AOL and got a taped message about their 'technical issues' it said all should be resolved in 24 hours, hmm! we'll see!

Nice to know Im not suffering alone though :)

Back up and running ok for me again today. Hope yours is too Glo.

Rich

I demand an apology now for your slanderous assumption that i'd banned you..........otherwise i'm going to ban you!

I am with AOL and had similar problems. It seems to be fine now but I couldn't join this thread at the time *** I couldn't get into TP at all!! It's also the 1st time I've had any issue with AOL for many years, so I probably won't change it, especially as I've heard so many horror stories about the others! :bonk:

Glad to hear youre sorted and back with us fabs ... damn but it was frustrating times, wasnt it?
Hope its all permenantly sorted ... the withdrawal symptoms were something else!

Re: *** .... Theres a few too many people using text speak recently, which is rather rude for our foreign members, and irritating the pants of others.
So, certain words have been added to the swear filter to combat it. (Not saying youre rude, btw). :)

Its mainly words like w.u.d, w.a.t, and typing the letter 'u' instead of you. I think cos is ok, but not c.u.z. :)

Photobucket was off line last week for a good while whilst they were updating servers or the like.

I have not long changed to TalkTalk from Onetel who are owned by TT and the service is worse, so much slower and struggle to access some sites still

Aha, I was wondering about that.
