Hi all,
I need a new compact. I currently have a Lumix TZ-7 which is looking a bit old now, and a Nikon d3100. I've decided it's about time to upgrade the TZ-7 and get a better compact. So, what do I want from the new camera? Image quality is a biggie. Zoom would be nice, but as I generally only use 17-50mm on my Nikon, I'm not too fussed about it. Good performance in low light would be great too. I'm tossing and turning over the idea of wifi. It would be nice, but I'm not sure how often I'd use it. If it can be used to assist in time lapses then great! Pocketability is also very important, so it needs to be a compact, not a CSC. Photography wise, I do a bit of everything, or at least I try to.
I've been doing a lot of research, and essentially I seem to have narrowed it down all by myself to 2 cameras; the Sony RX100 ii, or the Canon S120. The research has however led me to question some things. If I went ahead with the RX100, would the image quality and usability be better than that of the D3100. From what I've been looking at online, it seems to have better image quality, much better ISO and low light performance, and it would fit in my pocket. Bear in mind that I primarily only use one lens on the Nikon. So I'm wondering if it's worth selling my TZ7 and Nikon, and going for the Sony. From what I've seen, it beats most other cameras into the ground.
Help would be appreciated. As would suggestions of any cameras I've not thought of!
Cheers
Chris
