Help getting black background in cs5

Hi guys, so i have got cs5 and its the most complicated pieace off software i have ever used!!!! and i work in IT

what i want to do is get a all black background around a picture, is there a easier way off doing it?

no what i mean is, say i took a picture off my daughter at the beach how can i make it look as though she was in a black room? am i making sense?

i understand, if you make a mask of your daughter, select the inverse shift+ctrl(command)+I
Then fill it in black, if you wont post it up and i can email you a version
