I am very left handed and my D700 shutter is quite difficult to use, is there any adaptation you can make to make it easier to use?,

thanks

Short of a tripod and remote release... none that im aware of... that said im left handed too and have never found dslrs a problem... your still doing things with both hands, so i dont see how you could make it that much better...

Well phrased!

Maybe we should have a sub-section for lefties - as we are amazing creatures! :)

Using your right index finger is usually the best adaption. I'm left handed to but never find issues with things like this.

Most cameras are designed for right handed people, so i gotten used to pressing the shutter with my right hand. I would probably find it strange now using a shutter button that was on the left!

My advice would be to persevere...your right hand will get used it it!

Plus if they made a camera for us lefties, they would at least double to price of the camera!

thanks guys,

perhaps I should expand my problem,

I have cerebral palsy which has left my right side very weak, this means I have to keep checking my finger is on the shutter, I don't have a problem with my film camera, because I have a soft shutter button screwed into the button,

what I was wondering was if there was something that could be fixed to the shutter button,

Ah, the picture becomes clearer. Are you wanting say a 'stick-on' sort of rubber button? Could you DIY something out of say a rubber finger cone (like below) and some double sided sticky that will give a tactile feel to the button??

I'm (very) left handed and have never had a problem... plus I think it's an advantage taking the weight of the camera and steadying the lens with my 'better' arm.

As above, persevere, and you'll soon get used to it. Us lefties are excellent at adapting to a right handed world ;)

you could wire something up by butchering a remote release, look on 7dayshop or similar for a cheap one.

another idea that may help it to use back button focusing, where you assign one of the rear button to the focus rather than half press of the shutter. I dont use it but many people swear by it, and given the trouble of your right hand I could see how you may struggle to half press the shutter for focusing. (I know that isnt the question you asked, but may be a step to easing the situation)

Phwoar. Now lefties AND righties can shoot equally! Proof that Canon is better

thanks guys,

what would be nice would be a button with a sticky base that sat on the existing shutter button,

in the interim as suggested I've just stuck a bit of a rubber thimble on the button, this does give a more tactile feel to it
